Interesting. I always look at my pts eyes when they walk in. I look for tired eyes.
I believe that there is a connection between gout and apnea as well. I just read a study on glaucoma and apnea.

i believe that finger nail and hair growth do not need o2. you do not even have to be alive for either of these functions to happen. ;)

Fingernails and toe nails do not grow on the dead. That has been debunked a long time ago. The record is on http://www.snopes.com/science/nailgrow.asp.
Also, the nail beds and the cuticles are live cells and they do need oxygen to grow.
