Siblings with Sleep Apnea question sent to me in error by Michael F. O'Brien:

Subject: Siblings with Sleep Apnea?

"How many of you with sleep apnea have siblings, parents, or children with sleep apnea? Although it was never diagnosed in those days I am positive that my father sleep apnea.  He developed diabetes at age 63 and died of a heart attack at 77.  Still he was and is the longest lived of any O'Brien men in his line!  I hope to do better!!  I have a 65 year old brother who falls asleep at the drop of a hat and stops breathing while sleeping, but no one, wife & daughter, can get him to do anything about it."

I have a brother who has fallen asleep behind the wheel of a car. He claimed it was as a result of some of the stuff he was given during the first Iraqi war where he served. But i think it's sleep apnea.
My mom has sleep apnea, and I'm pretty sure my dad did. My dad had diabetes in his fifties and died at 60 from malignant melanoma. (Wear sunscreen people!!) My youngest sister died of primary pulmonary hypertension. She had Type I diabetes starting in childhood. Perhaps she had apnea too. I think my niece and nephew have sleep apnea--they are 12 and 14 years old. Nice gene pool wouldn't you say?
