Hello All; I have used my husbands name because I am worried that he may have "Sleep Apnea". I have talked to him about his lack of breathing while he's asleep & he just shrugs his shoulder's. I noticed that sexual disfunction is or may be a sign or sympotm of "Sleep Apnea" {Gosh I hope so}.
It's going on 7 years with no sex & he has zero drive, nothing, nada, zip. In August we will be renewing our 20 year vows, now I'm not looking for the same 'umph' we had 20 years ago {I'm getting to old for that kind of action} we married late in our lives. It is some-thing that we are both a tad worried about, we've talked to our Dr. (He's a D***) he's given us a pamphlet on differant possions to do, because my Husbands back is shot & my knees are shot. You know we may be older than him but we're not brain dead when it comes to trying new things & or posistions. Any-way, is there any way to know for sure if "Slee Apnea" has got any-thing to do with the lack of sex? I have to say I'm afraid to fall asleep at night for fear that I won't hear him stop breathing, so I've adopted the plan of staying awake at night while he sleeps & then I sleep during the day while he's awake, I've only just started staying awake at night & sleeping during the day so that has nothing to do with no sexual activaty, just so you know :). I don't know how I do it, but if he comes in the house & lays down on the couch in the livingroom & falls asleep I wake up all of a sudden & I don't even know that he's in the house let alone taking a nap, because he useally comes in using the back door.
Any-ways, I'm really hoping that I'll get some kind of help & or insight with this problem. Thank you for being there.
Truely;
Linda Wilkinson, wife of, Scott Wilkinson.

Good sleep=better sex. Well balanced diet=better sex. Good exercise regiment=better sex. Apnea can cause a lack of REM sleep due to the arousals brought on by a cessation in breathing and desats in o2. During REM men have periodic erections or arousals. It is said that a lack of these arousals can lead to a less active sex life and other erectile problems. So yes Apnea could be a part if not all of the problem. Good luck and welcome to Sleepguide.

Thank you so much for getting back to me as quickly as you have.
I will talk to my Husband Scott about this problem of Apnea & we will try to convince
our Dr. that there really is a problem & about how scared I get when Scott is sleeping,
if we could change Dr.'s we would but there are 'only' so many Dr.'s here in North Bay.
As it is our Dr. isn't even in town, we have to drive at lest 10 - 15 miles out of town to see
him, I am not happy with him in any way, shape or form but because of the shortage of
Doctors in Northern Ontario we have to take what or who we get. So that leaves me to
go on the computer to look for help & or advice that I pile to-gether to bring to our Dr.
I think he hates that I've got access to knowlegeable people, but you know what...tuff.
Once again thank you so much.
Our Dr. is going to hate you too now...lol.
I am not sure why I did not touch on this in my previous post. My wife would probably disagree with what I am about to say, but here goes. If your husband has untreated sleep apnea your sex life, as important as it is in any realtionship, may be a small problem in the grand scheme of things. Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by blockage in the airway. This blockage causes a cessation in breathing and or a drop in oxygen levels. It is this o2 starvation that over time will wreak havoc on your husbands body, mind, and soul. It can and will lead to heart problems, strokes, and siezures.

Central apnea is a more serious condition of the central nervous system in which the brain does not send the message to breathe to the lungs. This is usually caused by congestive heart failure, COPD, or some other Central nervous system disorder. Everything that I have just listed can be caused due to the o2 starvation caused by obstructive sleep apnea. If your husband does indeed have apnea it is very possible that it has been damaging his body for much longer than the 7 years that you mentioned in your post. I would highly suggest that the 2 of you speek to your physician about this. If your husband won't tell him then you should. Please educate yourself on this matter immediately. I am sure more people will be adding to this.

Rock
He would not be the first doc to take a disliking to me.
