Hi Judy, Do you have any power fluctuations? Are you using a surge protector or ups?Things like the heating system kicking on can cause spikes in supply voltage.How many hours are on your machine? Good Sleep,Chris

I experienced the same problem late last year. One night it turned off for 4 hours and another for 1 hour, I returned it to the supplier and it was replaced with a new machine. There have been discussions about this on another forum and the problem seems to be with machines bought in early 2010.

I had a machine swapped out very promptly earlier this month when it started making noise in sympathy with my breathing pattern.  The DME explained that this had been the precursor to an unspecified more serious problem and that Respironics had made revisions  to the newer machines to address this.

On the PR S1 BPAP Auto that stopped and wouldn't start again: 1266.8 hrs. About 5 months of use.

 

On the PR S1 current loaner that is stopping and starting on its own: 352.2 hrs. About 44 nights of use.

Not on a surge protector. IF the d*mn thing is so sensitive that the furnace kicking on and off blows its mind it isn't worth a d*mn anyway. My husband is an electrician, a darn good one, he wired this house, the furnace is less than 5 years old.

 

And - interesting Clueless - because both of these BPAP Autos have been very quiet - usually - but both have also had their "noisy" periods - in sympathy w/my breathing.

 

When I get my beloved VPAP Auto back and return this loaner I will be sure to mention these issues to them. Its their BPAP Auto, they can then do w/it whatever they want.

 

By the way - did anyone read about the PR S1 Anniversary Edition PR S1 PAPs???

Hi Judy, Your husband being an electrician may have a voltage meter that tracks highs and lows in supply voltage. I had a neighbor that had an arc welder that other stuff that caused supply fluctuations and havock with my electronics. Your machines do not have a huge amount of time on them . Just trying to narrow down what caused failures. Good Sleep, Chris

Thanks, Chris. I've mentioned it to him and he is mumbling but checking things out now. I doubt it is any neighbor's equipment tho. *wicked grin*. We're sitting on 10 acres w/a good buffer between homes.

 

I'm not the only one having these problems and others have had theirs replaced by Respironics so I'm putting my money on their being faulty machines despite the odds against TWO of them ending up in my bedroom. It obviously is not an unknown problem w/the S1s but also not a particularily prevalent problem since there are a lot of S1s out there very much loved by their owners/users. Pooh happens. Even to the best of us.

While he is at it ask him to look at house ground conections  , I have seen corroded clamps make poor conection ,(that at a glance looked fine) Two machine failures could be just your luck but if something is flakey and machine fails again you can tell the company you know its their stuff not yours.
