Hi... I'm new to this group. I been using the Resperonics M-series BIPAP AUTO since 11/08 when I started treatment. I had nothing but problems with it shutting down. It seems that the unit can't handle high pressures and will stop working if you lift the mask to make a adjustment. My pressure is 24/20. After 5 units I am being given a ResMed VPAP Auto 25 and I'm looking for the Clinicians Manual. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

I spent my first night with the VPAP Auto 25. It wasn't great. My AHI = 12.8 and AI = 2.7. Has mention in this form, I did expect a higher AHI with the ResMed as compared to the Resperonics. My AHI on the Resperonics was 2 with a AI of 1 and a HI of 1. I do have very severe OA with a AHI of 103 during my sleep study back in 11/08.

What concerned me last night was that I woke up about every hour.

Below are my results followed by my settings. Any thoughts from you knowledgeable people?

LEAK: 0.10 L/S ( Standard setting: Resperonics Comfort Gel Nasal )
VT: 420-900
RESP RATE: 17-28
MV: 9.0-20.1
PRESS: 24
AHI: 12.8
AI: 2.7
SPONT T: 0%
SPONT C: 0%

VAUTO
IPAP: 24
EPAP: 20
PRESS: SUP 4
TI MAX: 2.0s
TI MIN: 0.3s
EXHALATION: MED
TIGGER: MED
CYCLE: MED
Jim, Thanks for the info

One night's data just isn't enough. Stick w/it for one full week. Seven nights.

Then if things still weren't going well I "might" be inclined to drop IPAP to 23 and EPAP to 19 leaving PS at 4 for a week.
I just got my first machine (ResMed Auto25).
My issue is that my provider wants $2800+ for this which I can get online for half.
Am I being cheap or can I set up myself???
Daniel or one of the ResMed gurus here might have a different view, and i'd like to hear it, but my instinct would be to buy it online and then ask questions here. won't the online retailer that's going to sell it 1/2 price configure it according to your doctor's script?

I feel very strongly that if someone is getting their first machine, they need the advice and support of a local provider. As helpful as the people on this forum can be, you should not solely rely on the internet to treat your sleep apnea.

When someone has used CPAP for a long time, I can see buying a second device online in order to save some money.

Remember, I'm a bricks and mortar provider and Internet pricing for CPAPs only hurts my business, so my opinions are more than a little tainted.

I'm inclined to agree w/Daniel on this one. If you can find a good local DME supplier contracted w/your insurance a person new to xPAP would be better off to go with the local provider.

However, if you don't have insurance or you have a high annual deductable you haven't met yet .... sometimes it becomes necessary even for newbies to buy online. A good reputable online DME supplier such as cpap.com or cpapworksllc.com will set up your xPAP according to your prescription which you have to provide to them. It isn't necessary to buy the mask from them, get just the xPAP and humidifier, and buy your mask from the local DME supplier, despite the considerably higher price, until you find a comfortable, relatively leak free mask.

Keep in mind that several of the leading xPAP manufacturers have instituted MAP (minimum advertised pricing) policies against the online DME suppliers. Be sure to call their toll-free number, use the coupon they provide, or add the item to your shopping cart to find out what the real "unadvertised sale price" for that item is before buying.

But first, start by calling your insurance company and asking them what local DME suppliers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one. That will give you more bargaining/negotiating room to get the equipment you want. If you are counting on your insurance buying your xPAP for you from an online DME supplier at the reduced price ..... you are most likely in for a BIG SURPRISE. Despite the saving MOST insurances will not reimburse you for purchasing "out of network".
Rock Hinkle, Rock Connor, jnk - would one of you explain to me where there is ANY value in running a Resmed VPAP Auto in auto mode w/a pressure setting of IPAP 24, EPAP 20, PS 4? Or even IPAP 11, EPAP 6, PS 5?? There is no fluctuation room w/either of those pressure support settings so what's the reason or value for auto mode? Why not just use it in Spontaneous mode?

And did I see somewhere and fail to bookmark where someone posted a page of the graphs from a VPAP Auto 25 where it showed TWO pressure lines, the IPAP and the EPAP pressure lines instead of just one straight line as the VPAP Auto does when the pressure support is equal to the pressure range between IPAP and EPAP?
Would you have the pdf manual for my machine - Respronics Mseries (700M) bi-pap Auto w/bi-=flex. I have the user manual but that is totally inadequate. I am experiencing the sam (or similar) problem to the starter of this thread.

It would all depend on what the minimum maximum window is Judy. Maybe I am missing something on this one as I do not fully understand your question.
