Hi... I'm new to this group. I been using the Resperonics M-series BIPAP AUTO since 11/08 when I started treatment. I had nothing but problems with it shutting down. It seems that the unit can't handle high pressures and will stop working if you lift the mask to make a adjustment. My pressure is 24/20. After 5 units I am being given a ResMed VPAP Auto 25 and I'm looking for the Clinicians Manual. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

hmmm. Judy tends to have a lot of info on ResMeds. I'll call her attention to this question.

welcome to the group!
Unfortunately, I don't have the Clincians Manual for the VPAP Auto 25 in pdf. I'm not having a whole lot of luck finding many of the S8 II Clinicians Manuals in pdf.

One thing I can tell you that I've run into w/the VPAP Auto is that the Pressure Support works entirely different than the Pressure Support w/the Respironics bi-levels. The Resmed VPAP Auto's Pressure Support is governed by the EPAP setting, NOT the IPAP setting.

This is the info given to me: (my IPAP at the time was 13, EPAP 6, PS 6)

"That's very little automatic-adjustment or wiggle room for your VPAP in auto mode. It's almost behaving like a straight bi-level because of those narrow high-limit (IPAP) and low-limit (EPAP) settings relative to that fixed PS setting of 6.

While in auto mode, your VPAP can only wiggle between a high of 13/7 and a low of 12/6. That's only 1 cm of up-and-down travel room as your VPAP attempts automatic pressure adjustment. So that 1 cm is not a whole lot of up-and-down travel room....

The VPAP auto's up-and-down travel range used toward automatic adjustment will be determined by this simple equation:

("IPAP_max_setting" minus "EPAP_min_setting") minus "PS_setting" equals allowable up-and-down travel range while in VPAP auto mode.

The above reworded: (IPAPmax - EPAPmin - PS) = allowed up-and-down pressure travel "

If you do find a copy of the Clinicians Manual for the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto 25 I would VERY MUCH appreciate it if you would share a copy of it with me whether a scanned copy or in pdf format. PLEASE!
Thanks for your quick replys. I'll keep looking and pass it on if I find one.
I understand that the ResMed unit is more sensitive to HI's and my AHI might read higher. Is this true? With the Resperonics I go between an AHI of 2 to 4.
Yes, the Resmeds do tend to score HIs more aggressively than other brands. I can't remember the link to an explanation of the difference in scoring between the Resmed and the Respironics algorhythms to share w/you.
Bless you, jnk. We can always count on you for a well-thought out and expressed evaluation, information, opinion or in
this case, explanation. Youse a good kid and a "keeper"!
I agree the definitions for alot of things in this industry can be very inconsistant. The reason for this is that the governing bodies can't seem to get it together. The AASM(my governing body) does a pretty good job in trying to keep up. AASM reules state that a hypopnea is a 4% desat with a 40-50% decrease in respiratory effort(40% in my lab). medicare uses the alternative rules 3% w/ a 50% decrease in respiratory effort. Now medicaid can very by state to state on their individual rules. Now if it is not confusing enough the individual insurance companies may have a completely different set of rules that we ahve to follow in order to meet their requirements for payment. HUH! it is my opinion that the insurance companies need to form a body of representatives to work wth organizations like the AASM and the individual sleep organizations to get a bit more conformity.
I forgot to add that I have links to many other manuals available as pdfs.
Jim to have a link to the Respironics Bipap S/T provider pdf. I am looking for one.
Thanks in advance.

This is the link for the Respironics AVAPS provider manual. It is the same Provider Manual for your Respironics S/T, although the AVAPS manual includes additional PC (Pressure Control) Mode and Tidal Volume settings that are available with the AVAPS machine.
