Resmed S9 Series Elite and AutoSet Introduced in Europe

And, while it doesn't enhance our therapy, are they GOOD LOOKING!!!

It is going to require yet another new version of ResScan - and possibly, its not clear, a new version USB cable or cable reader.

My GUESS is that reducing, increasing or using EPR does change your therapy somewhat by reducing the pressure during exhalation. It is confusing tho in that in previous models they provided easy access for the patient to adjust EPR for comfort. Maybe it has something to do w/the efficiency of the EasyBreathe technology?? Or maybe, even w/the earlier series, access wasn't granted unless the scripting doctor including it in the script?

EPR is NOT Resmed's latest technology by any stretch of the imagination.

That's an interesting question, Dave. I'll have to try to remember to ask our Resmed Rep that at our support group meeting in March.
I would agree that they have had EPR on there CPAP for quite some time but I believe they only put it on the Autosets in the last couple of years. The S8 Autospirit 11 was re issued with EPR on the face plate. I bought one in Dec to get the EPR. Hence my comment on my initial post. My S9 came with the EPR set for the ramp period only.

You're right. The S8 AutoSet Vantage had EPR in straight CPAP mode only but it wasn't operable in auto mode, Whereas w/the S8 AutoSet II EPR was available in auto mode as well.
Hi Dave,

I was just diagnosed with moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. I've been trying out the Resmed S8 Elite with the softgel nasal mask, which I really like. I live in Taiwan so I need to buy a product that won't break down. I've pretty much decided to buy the ResMed S9. Could you tell me how you like yours? Does it deliver what's it's suppose to? Furthermore, would you recommend it? Any suggestions would be really appreciated. By the way, to give you an idea of how severe my apnea is, the ResMed sales rep put my machine up to a level 6.

Hi All,
New boy joined. Having just ordered the S9 Autoset with the h5i and Swift FX for delivery in a couple of days, I thought I would join a forum and share some of my experiences over my 5 years with severe sleep apnea and how the S9 performs for me. I am presently using the Resmed S8 Autoset 11, I replaced it in December with a later model to get the EPR. Resmed kindly did not mention the S9 was being released which puts me well out of pocket. I held on to my old h3i humidifier but have had to stop using it due to excessive condensation. I have the Resmed software and monitor my sleep patterns. It doesn't give a great deal more than taking the clinical info available from the S8. Without the S8 I have around 48 A.I each hour. With it, I achieve 0 to .3 overnight. So the machine is very important to me and I don't think I would be here without it. I am not seriously overweight and am informed that to lower my weight would probably have little effect on my apnea. I sleep on average about 5 hours a night, normally woken by the pressure if it goes above 10. Shortly after starting treatment, I had a severe case of Pericaditus. Problems with the sack around the heart, and still suffer some discomfort of the chest, which I have always thought was somewhat due to the CPAP. Would be interested to know if any one else has sufferred similar. The apnea cost me my occupation (Commercial Pilot single pilot operation ) I have done considerable research and try to monitor the continuing effects it has upon me. Over the 5 years I have used some 6 different machines and 4 masks full face, nasal, liberty and swift, At the moment I can only sleep with the Swift 2 and am looking forward to the Swift FX. Hopefully I can have lots of nice things to say about the S9 for you, If it falls down in any areas, I will let you know. I can only compare it to other Resmed products and my experiences of sleeping with a machine strapped to my face. If you have any particular questions just ask. Dave
Hi,

I notice a chirp on every exhale with my S9 Autoset. Has anyone else noticed this? The same problem here: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/p459415/S9-Autoset-vs-MSeries-Pro...
I have used the S9 for a few weeks now and have the software to monitor the effect of changing masks and settings. the FX pillows are very comfortable but the amount of leakage at times in the night has tripled my AI. I have gone back to the Swift 11 that was the latest prior to the FX. Adjusting the EPR also had considerable affect and I now have it set to 1 , ramp only. There is a chirp, as was mentioned, and it makes what is a quiet machine, a bit annoying at times. It's an attractive machine and I do recommend it. But the only advantage I have found over the S8 autoset with EPR is, its looks. The cost to upgrade I would suggest is dependant on if you have the spare finances. It's been more of a cosmetic upgrade from my point but I do prefer it to the S8,

Well, I'd say a major feature relative to the S8 is the Climate Control humidification using the heated ClimateLine hose. For someone who already has an S8, a 3rd party product such as the Aussie hose might be a good solution, but for a newbie like me, it definitely was a deciding factor in my decision to go with the S9.
To each his own. The ClimateLine hose wouldn't carry any weight w/me at all.
