This is the replacement schedule that my insurance will honor.
Monthly- FF or nasal cushion, nasal pillows, devide filters
Every three months- mask (excludes headgear), tubing
Every six months- headgear, chin strap, humidifier water chamber.
I know some us are proud to be more thrifty, feeling that a mask needs a breaking period before it's really comfortable, but there is a reason insurance companies allow us to replace these supplies on a schedule. Optimum therapy means having equipment in optimal condition. The pamphletcompares it to changing a toothbrush or razor blade. Mask cushions and pillows deteriorate over time, filters get clogged and dirty and hoses can get pinholes or tears. Headgear stretches out leading to overtightening, and if you use tap water in your humidifier chamber mineral deposits form and pits may develop which may trap
bacteria. It's good to always have a spare mask and tubing on hand and we certainly should have extra filters. Plan ahead when traveling. We have heard from posters who traveled and had a mask break or they lose a connector and they're wondering where to get a replacement. We heard from one young man who was crew on a boat and forgot his whole device.
My last mask, the TitLife Total Face Mask, did not have a separate cushion and in three months I was ready for a replacement.
I'm sure I will try to make everything last longer so I can work to have a brand new mask as a spare, or I could keep the old mask as a spare.
For optimum.
therapy keep your equipment clean and in optimum shape.
