NPR piece:
"I wish the reporter had checked her facts. CPAPs are not “loud and cumbersome". They are very quiet and small. They make no more noise than a high quality window fan on low and are about a six-inch cube. Some push air into the mouth and nose but the vast majority only cover the nose with a small mask that is comfortable to wear. Relief is immediate -- you feel better after the first night. After a bit of practice, you can talk and drink water while wearing one. A humidifier attachment helps alleviate stuffy noses. Power use is minimal. They can be plugged into a standard 12 volt outlet in any car. My wife has used one for 15 years and I’ve had mine for 10 years. Both of my brothers, one of my sons, a brother-in-law and many friends use CPAPs. I only know one person who was prescribed a CPAP and did not use it. She is the same person who says she can’t remember to take her blood pressure and cholesterol medications.
This story reported on an alternative treatment for sleep apnea. Alternatives are great but reporting on them should not include a negative and non-factual description of the other alternatives."
