Questions to ask the Doctor on your next visit?

Hi All,

I'll be seeing my sleep doc soon (pulmonologist) and I got to thinking, what questions I should ask?

I usually take a little notebook with questions and to write down answers whenever I go to any doctor.

So, what are your thoughts as to the best questions to ask about our Apnea, CPAP, statistics, etc.?

HI All,

Thanks for your ideas!

I like the idea of the sleep log, though I'm probably not disciplined enough to keep it going!

One thing I should clarify. My question was meant more as a general one, to get people thinking about the kinds of questions that should be asked, rather than what questions would be more appropriate for my specific situation.

Nevertheless, here are the answers to the questions about my particular situation.

I have a ResMed AutoSet II, and I'm coming up on 3 months of using it. It's my first machine.

The next doctor visit will be the third since investigating the possibility of OSA.

I've had one sleep study, and a titration study.

I get the results data from my DME, who emails it to me whenever I request it. I have a report with data for every day since I've started.

Since starting on CPAP, I haven't missed a single night, and my shortest night with CPAP was 4.5 hours. I've had the typical problems with leakage, but nothing exciting to report.

I feel better than I have in years, and I now sleep at least 8 hours per night, up from 2-3 before CPAP. I'm no longer tired throughout the day.

The only problem I've found with CPAP is that I now have 5 or 6 less hours in my day, as compared to before CPAP. I used to spend the time from about 10pm to 3am reading and working on the computer. Since CPAP, I only have about 10-15 minutes of time to read!

I've figured out the meaning of AI, HI, and AHI by reading this forum. My AI is usually less than 1, though sometimes just over 1.

My titration study showed a huge improvement over my initial study. I was having close to 30 episodes per hour before CPAP.
