Question about a mask setting on my APAP
You know when you set up your CPAP in the clinical menu you choose what kind of mask you have so the machine can adjust that info for leak rates? Well, I used to have a swift LT for Her and now I have a Headrest mask. I went into the clinical menu and checked for the Headrest mask. There are only about 4 choices for masks listed in the clinical menu and Headrest wasn't one of them. So I just stuck with the swift. Does that mean that the leak rate information is not as accurate since the actual mask you are using isn't one of the options?
Also, my mask still sputters water at me (rainout) since my room is so cold. I am just living with it since I have my humidity turned down on my APAP and I have a hose cozy. So now I pull off the mask at night and let it blow water all over then put it back on again. Wouldn't you think that pulling off the mask in the night would show up as leak in the data? My leak shows at 0.00 LS.
I have a Resmed S8Autoset 11.

Wow I am impressed Bee!!
I am using the Headrest as well, but have an S8 Vantage. I have been unable to get my leak rate below .14. I am unsure which mask I have chosen though on the clinical menu. I am anxiously awaiting replies on this. I would like to lower my leak rate, but have been unsuccessful, even with some modifications.

I am still hanging on to the the Headrest Carol because I love it so much in every way. I hope the rainout will get better as it gets warmer in my room at night. By the way, my husband is scheduled to see a MASK specialist this coming week. The sleep doc gave him a referral. That is all he does, he is not a DME, he just fits masks...Have you ever heard of this?
My husband has a .16 leak rate and the sleep doc wants him to get it lower. He uses a full face mask and has a beard...so we will see what he says.
I hope someone can answer my question as well. bee

You need the literature that came w/your Headrest mask to determine what the allowed vent rate is at your pressure setting and then you select the Mask Selection on your Resmed to the Resmed mask w/the allowed vent rate at your pressure closest to that of your Headrest.

Some machines will compensate for leaks better than others. I am happy if my patients have a leak below 0.5 L/s. The quick take off of the mask during the night to get rid of the water for a few seconds wont show up unless it is off for a significant amount of time. I call the humidifier setting a crap shoot. One day someone will come up with a way to eliminate humidity and I hope to get intellectual property rights to it or at least hopefully they will shrare the millions they could make. Good luck.

Thanks Rock and Linda. I sort of go with my AI and AHI numbers, if they are in line that I just "guess" that the leak is okay...I know....I am NOT technical at all....I have sort of gotten used to getting sprayed with water every night...my own private waterfall. geeeeze.
My Ai is always under 3 and my AHI is always under 5.
Judy, I am very anxious to hear about the "mask specialist" as well. I will keep everyone posted! I am interested in what his title is on his business card...LOL.

If you feel good, then that is what I would be happy with. Enjoy your private waterfall. Need to get me one of those so I can eliminate my insomnia at night.
