Hmmmm.... really interesting. Thanks for passing this along.
From what I read (in a New York Times article), one breathes in easily with Provent but there is resistance during the exhale; it is the exhale resistance that creates a back pressure in the airways and dilates the muscles that would otherwise relax closed during sleep. It seems to me that a mouth breather "confronting" the exhale resistance, would simply breathe out through the mouth thus eliminating the benefit of the patch. For this reason, it seems to me that a chin strap would serve because it would help to keep one's mouth closed..
I would love to have something like Provent for trips, etc. so that I wouldn't have to lug my beloved CPAP. Also, people who like to camp out, would be very happy beneficiaries.

Zollistar, I don't know how the chin strap would work unless you tolerated the Provent restricted nasal breathing while awake. Dr. Rapoport talked about Provent in a seminar and said most people breathe through their mouth while awake with Provent and then just naturally change over to nasal breathing when asleep. I was told I was a mouth breather during a sleep test so asssume I mouth breathe during the night. I don't think it would work for me, but in an emergency may be better than nothing.
