from a member whose husband did a home sleep test: "My husband did an in home study through Bellin Hospital.  They determined that he quits breathing 81 times per hour and a total of 467 times per night. Unfortunately I can't get cpap because our insurance requires our doctor see him and he diagnose him.  Our doctor is 6 months out. Why can't I get cpap? What is a person to do?"

What doc ordered the home study?  If it was the doc who is 6 months out, perhaps make  a call to his nurse and she can have an associate write the prescription.  If you did not see a sleep doctor he might need a titration study so perhaps if you take your home study results to a sleep doctor he/she can help you out.  I agree this is a bad situation and he needs a CPAP as soon as possible.  Good luck.  Somebody should be covering for your doc while he is out.
Can Bellin hospital contact your doctor now? You have the sleep study and the report already. Why cant they or you give your Doctor the report today??? Does your insurance co want to pay for the comorbidities that will happen it treatment is not started asap????? Good Sleep,Chris
This is not the first time I have seen this with an HST. I have had an influx of pt's over the last year that have come to the lab after having an overnight ox and an HST.
Please keep us posted on the outcome of your situation.
Your family doctor can write the script for a CPAP for your husband. Most any doctor can. Was there a referring doctor? He could write the script. You do NOT have to wait for any appointment w/the sleep doctor. This is assuming you are in the USA.
Hi Mike, Does the person you posted this for have any coments so far ??? Good Sleep,Chris
