On my 8th month with my cpap and, as I've mentioned before, it was a process of anger, denial, acceptance, months of struggling to get adjusted, working out kinks and little problems - with the help of this community and very little support from my "doctor." I've fallen in love with my cpap, traveled abroad with my machine (and my new "magic" PAPillow) and can't imagine a night without it now. Three nights ago, experienced my first power outage. Woke up struggling for air, panicked and the power stayed out until the morning. "Woke up" feeling like my old miserable self pre-Cpap and remembered how insufferable life was before. Two things: 1. Newbies, hang in there! 2. How do others out there handle the possibility of a power outage. Are there battery backups or something I should know about for cpap machines?

I feel the same way when I go without CPAP for a night -- reminds me of just how much benefit I'm getting each night.

on the battery backup issue, there's been some discussion on this on the following thread that you can take a look at: cpap battery backups
I have a backup/travel li-ion battery that will power my CPAP for two nights. I also have a second AGM battery in my car that I can bring into the house to run my CPAP for nearly a week. In a pinch I could also use my AGM car starting battery, which can be safely deep discharged. I guess that my starting battery should power my CPAP for about 5 or 6 days. I have about two weeks of backup CPAP power.
