To facilitate CPAP machine hygiene and cleanliness:

Once out of the carrying case, you can place your CPAP machine in a clear plastic bag before placing the device in the bin. You will need to provide/bring your own plastic bag.

Upon request, TSOs will change their gloves prior to performing the visual and physical inspection, and ETD sampling of your CPAP machine. The CPAP will need to be removed from the plastic bag by the TSO to conduct the ETD sampling.

Upon request, TSOs will clean the table where the ETD sampling will be conducted.

Upon request, TSOs will change the ETD sampling media before conducting the ETD sampling.

This is a great system.. but what protoects the workers from the CPAPs? Having to deal with used machine for check I can tell you horror stories about growing and creeping things coming from CPAP machines.
Wayne, what would you recommend the TSOs do to protect themselves?

That's a minor concern compared to the inspection of dirty underwear bags on return flights. :):):)
Disposable gowns N-99 mask and gloves, there can be so many different pathogens passed in airports, bus stations, train stations.....and Banvon..Ouch never thought of that one.

My worry is who sits near me on the airplane and who touched everything around me before I did. I have two friends with chronic colds, it's necessary to keep the immune system in top shape and watch your hands and mouth (keep one away from the other) when around them. And what's with these people who cough without covering their mouth? I have a friend who caught MRSA after nasal surgery. She never got straight with the doctor if she was cleared, or still carries it in her nasal passages- she's one who coughs all over and gets an attitude if I say something. I can sure clean my CPAP machine after it clears security. As for the screeners, they should practice Universal Precautions. LOL.

I don't really worry about these sorts of things; I have a healthy immune system. I have lived and traveled in several places with sanitation standards and practices that are not what we are used to, and I haven't had any problems. I think that coughing or sneezing without covering one's mouth/nose is very rude, but I am not especially concerned if somebody does it. I don't worry about the TSA handling my CPAP -- and my machine is clean.
