Hi yeh all,Well I have a sleep disorder which may lose me my career.I am a long distance tour driver driving coaches for a living. Is is extremely important that I get sufficent sleep as I work up to 14 hours a day and cannnot afford to be fatigued. Lives depend on me and my ability to function.  You can imagine the problem if I drove off a cliff with 50 people on board. So i need to know how to control this sleep disorder .Any one with ideas.

Howie, if your CPAP is not controlling your symptoms, ask you doc for a precription for Provigil, or Nuvigil (longer acting Provigl), or another stimulant if he/she prefers. Sometime CPAP does not completely control the symptoms of excessive daytime sleepiness. I would start with the sleep doc. After working 14 hours a day I can imagine it might be hard to unwind enough to get the needed amount of sleep. If you're having trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep there are a variety of OTC sleep medicines you could try. Some people like one of the pain relievers mixed with benadryl (diphenhydramine HCL) as they help ease aches and pains that may be preventing you from sleeping soundly; there is also Unisom (try to get store brand or buy at a Costco), plain benadryl and a number of herbal remedies. I personally would start with a script for a stimulant to make sure I stayed awake while driving, and then if getting to sleep is a problem try unisom, benadryl or one of the "PM" pain relievers. Take at least an hour before bedtime.

Good Luck, Keep us posted. Someone who knows more about it can hopefully fill you in , but I believe there is a group for long haul drivers with sleep apnea. There have been long discussions on the forum on the hazards you long haul drivers face and the regulations going into place regarding sleep apnea. Glad you recognize the problem.
How long have you been on PAP therapy?
