I would like to switch from Mount Sinai’s Center for Sleep Medicine where I'm being treated for apnea and insomnia.  I'm not particularly happy there.

I’m thinking about switching to Cornell-Weill.  Anyone have any experience there?  Or do you have a hospital-based facility that you like?  (I’m not interested in independent entities so much.  I’d prefer to go to a place linked to a university.)

I’m especially interested in a facility that understands that the mask is the most important component. In my fantasy a knowledge, patient physician’s assistant helps me choose from a range of mask options so that I can test them on site before taking it home for a test run.

Also, my DME provider, the Brooklyn-based Medstar is very much less than stellar.  Can someone make recommendations?

They say I’m a dreamer.  But I doubt that I’m the only one!

as for DME providers, call up Restoration Medical and ask to speak to Chip: http://www.restorationmedical.com/catalog/pages.php?page=splash  -- he's a great guy that knows everything there is to know about mask issues and you can tell him that Mike from Manhattan AWAKE/ SleepGuide suggested you give him a call.

Tougher call on the University-affiliated sleep center.  I hear good things about Omar Burschtin at NYU: http://www.med.nyu.edu/biosketch/bursco01 .

Will do, Mike!  Thanks so much.  I'll let you(s) know about my experience.  :) Diane

you're more than welcome, Diane.  I just ask that you let us all know about your experience by posting back on SleepGuide -- that way everyone in the NYC area will have another data point for such decisions going forward.

Hi.

I just got off the phone after talking to Sanoma Morrison, receptionist/admin at NYU Sleep Center. It's 2011, people! Can't we agree that quality of health care starts at the first interaction?!  The attitude! The sighing at my questions! Having me on speaker phone for the whole conversation--OMG!  I have issues with Mount Sinai, but at least most staff  are polite. Sorry Sleepers!  I just had to vent!

Diane

good for you for calling Ms. Morrison out on her rudeness in a public forum.
