My husband has been treated for sleep apnea with a CPAP machine for close to 8 years now. (He will be 50 in September) and has gotten zero relief from the fatigue, weight gain, etc from the use of the machine. They are now talking Uvula Surgery. He is 5'8 and weighs approx 210 lbs so he doesn't really qualify for bariatric surgery but I have read that that is more successful in treating sleep apnea than the other surgery they are talking about. We are very confused and really don't know what avenue to take. They added a drug within the last couple months (Provigil?) to keep him awake during the day. (He does not have narcolepsy).

Has any one had success/failure with the surgeries and/or the CPAP machine not helping?

Thanks!

Before your husband considers surgery, he needs to know that he has truly exhausted his options with CPAP. Has he tweaked his CPAP therapy at all -- changed the settings/ looked at detailed data reports from the machine to trouble shoot? Does he have a fully data capable machine? If the answers to these questions are "no", he's not ready to write off CPAP yet. What are the answers to those questions?
He just recently had his second sleep study done and has had the settings changed by the doctors/technicians more than one time during the years he has been treated. He has also had different types of masks...they said his machine is working fine and they recently adjusted his settings according ti his last study.

If you could post any data from his machine it would be most helpful. What type of mask is he using? What type of machine?, What pressures? What was his AHI/RDI?
