After my last sleep study, i had to switch from Cpap to Bipap, so i found someone selling a Resmed Vpap auto 25 on craigslist. New machine. I thought i could just get into clinical settings and put in the ipap and epap settings and I would be good. The titration report recommends ipap 15 and epap 14. I've been using the machine for a week, and don't know if there are alarms for more than leaks, but it alarms several times a night, and the mask isn't leaking most of the time. A few deep breaths stops the alarm. I have it set on auto with the above settings. Am I missing something? Thanks!

15/14 is not what the AASM would recomend. You need a difference of at least 3 so 15/12 might be a set of pressures for bi-level/ Bi-PAP. If your mask is not leaking than your mouth might be opening. I don't know what kind of mask you have...if I did I'd know what else you might be able to do.
Thank you Duane, I will try changing the 15/12. The mask is the Resmed Mirage Quattro full face. I was really hoping to notice a positive change after getting the machine. I appreciate your response.
Yes, that's odd.

Like j n k said, it's the lower, EPAP, pressure that is important since it is titrated until OSA is gone. AASM recommends a 4cmH20 spread with BiPAP.

Not to be a party pooper, but the Craigslist machine might not be so new. They often alarm when the flow generator (the engine of the machine) is damaged.

Jeffery,

Take a look at this site and there may be some information that may help you.

Thanks to all of you for your input, I trust it more than the physicians office; I think he's old fashioned and reading the titration report. The person that performed the study on me put the he titrated it up to 15/14; and there was no further apnea's. So when I called the doctor and questioned the setting and told him I wasn't doing well with the setting, he told me to leave it at that. Maybe I'll go 18/14 and see how it goes, I can always change it. Thanks again.
