New healthcare reform.
Perhaps this is not a relevant discussion in this forum, and perhaps I am moving myself into a heated debate. But seen here from Denmark, has Obama's new healthcare reform made the U.S. to a more humane country.
I have read that many Americans believe that this reform will make the U.S. into another Europe.
But it is still the case that the U.S. is very far from Europe's social structure. I do not speak
either for or against this development. There are many pros and cons of this
development.
But best of my knowledge, this is a big step forward with the new healthcare reform.

Looks like we had the same thoughts Henning. Can you explain to us how medical treatment is approached in your country. It may help give me a better understanding of what is about to happen here. I could be wrong, but aren't you in Ireland?

No, Denmark is not in Ireland but is a part of the Nordic countries.
As I see it, what happens in the U.S. right now is the same as we have been through back in the fifties.
Unlike the United States (including the new reform) we built a public health care system up where everyone should become a member. (At that time everyone should pay a small amount for it - today it's all free of charge)
Today we have one of the world's best public health care systems, but it is a very expensive system. Actually we use more money per patient than in the U.S. (It is obviously difficult to compare with the US system today)
But funny enough, we have the last 6 - 7 years built up a private health care system. This system only takes care of about 2% of our patients. This is not because the treatment is better, but sometimes quicker.
But as a European, it is a natural thing to have right to free treatment, and I do not think some Europeans today would accept less.

No doubt about it.
But when that being said, we have great respect for the U.S., and their systems. So I will not go into a discussion about our other social systems, versus the U.S. Here is completely different differential perceptions in Europe.

If you go more than 1000 years back in time, it is probably true of the Vikings has affected Ireland, England, as well as Scotland.

Conn I do not have the knowledge or the experience that you do. Maybe you could shed some light on it. I just don't see it that way. With an additional influx of 30+million to the system, and the babyboomers not to far behind I just do not see a reduction in diagnostic procedures or medical jobs as a possibility. A reduction in fees and wages probably. The job market however will have to increase.

Back in the 1990s when the Clintons proposed healthcare reform there was such a rush to dump services not to mention there were rules imposed that some individuals who were chronically ill couldnt recieve more treatment a cut off point. The Doctors thank goodness refused the proposals. If you have dared to try an read any of the more than 2000 pages of confusion you can plainly see that the govrnment can and will limit number of Doctors visits and treatments performed.
If the attempt at reform in the 1990s caused a backlash just think what this can do or may do. Sleep technologist will decline as services are refused by political officials. I will now not speak of this again..but trust me it will be a downfall.

Personally I do not believe at a reduction in wages. With a much larger patient basis the cost price will also decrease. So ultimately it wil create more revenue.
