I just got my c-pap and have used it 3 nights so far. I am not sure that I am getting any more sleep now than before. I am hoping that is just takes a while to get used to having the mask on and that in a few nights, I will be sleeping all night. The first night, I ended up taking it off during the night sometime. The second night was pretty much the same. I woke up quite frequently. Moving the mask, checking the mask, etc. One time I woke up and felt panicked and ended up removing the mask again. Last night was a little better. I don't think I woke up as often but in the morning, I didn't have the mask on again. I don't remember taking it off. Has anyone else had this kind of problem getting used to the mask? I plan to keep wearing it every night but I am hoping it gets easier as time goes by.

For what it's worth (and my guess is it's worth something otherwise i wouldn't say it), your experience is Super Duper typical. it's the most common reaction people have when they first start down the CPAP road. It's a very uncomfortable adjustment to start sleeping with a mask and hose connected to your face every night. That said, it's a HIGHLY worthwhile adjustment to make, and one that I have made myself, as well as many others here. Keep on keeping on for now, and let us know as specifically as you can the problems that you encounter along the way so that we can help you trouble-shoot.
Mike is absolutely correct.

This is not atypical at all for a new user. Decades of sleeping footloose and fancy free, then..."Here Maam...we're going to strap this baby on your face, around your head, and...oh yeah....air will be CRANKING!!!"

Give yourself some time to adjust.

I do notice in the lab that patients (on their first night with CPAP) will pull at, adjust, and remove their mask if they aren't on their optimal pressure.

You may not be on your optimal pressure. Just something to keep in mind. You may want to get a copy of your report and let us scrutinize the numbers as compared to your current therapeutic prescri......the pressure that you're on now.

Again, like Mike said. Share your problems here. There is a wealth of knowledge from users, technicians, and physicians.
You might try wearing it during the day say while you are watching tv. This will halep you get acclimated during this tough adjustment period.
It is funny that you would say that as that is one of the things my husband recommended!!!! He has no experience with this at all except for watching me try to adjust. I will have to tell him you said that. Thanks so much for your response. I will try that. :-)
Thanks for the encouragement. I will let you know how things are going and as soon as I get the report, I will put the info in here for you. I have asked several times for a copy and so far have not received one. They won't fax me a copy but tell me that they will mail it and I have yet to get it. As soon as I do, I will give you the readings. Thanks so much.
