I have been on a REsontic cpap for 2 years now. I am retiring and losing my insurance due to medical reasons and will lose my cpap machine at the end of december, I am looking for a way to get another machine , possibly used and refurbished to buy. I do not have alot of money to purchase,  but I know I would really lose alot of sleep without it. That Blue Cross for ya!! They were renting it!!!!!

Are you sure that it was a life time rental?? Most insurances I am aware of have a limited rental and at the end of the limit ownership of the CPAP reverts to the patient.

The usual limited rental (rent to own, capped rental) is anywhere from 1 to 13 months. Do you get an EOB every month showing a rental payment?

Oh yeah, got a letter and they are billing my insurance 53.27 a month

My suggestion, if you are satisfied with your current machine, call the manager of your equipment provider. Tell him your situation and make it clear that you will not be able to afford the rental despite desperate need of the machine. Ask him if they could not consider the machine paid for and release ownership to you. If your numbers are corrected they will have already received over $1200 for a machine that you could buy new for a fraction of that.

If they refuse or offer to sell it to you at an unreasonable price, tell them you will be returning the machine. Then before you actually return it, report back to this thread - there are some ways to get an inexpensive machine.
