I know what you mean Judy!!

My desktop computer is a few years old and when I purchased it from WallyWorld I purchased an eMachine without any extras and was one of the cheaper ones they had. My main use of my computer is school related or surfing the web so don't need as much as some others. Even reformatting it didn't help it much and it was getting painful waiting for it to load. I broke down a week ago and picked up a Toshiba laptop from WallyWorld for a little under $500 with 3 gb memory and a 350 gb harddrive with a 2 mhz processor. Big jump from my tower and hopefully will do me for a few years. It is so much faster and I love it. Reason I decided a laptop instead of a tower this time was so I could use between work and home.
we miss you, Judy. a new computer, or a refurbished computer, can be had at pretty reasonable prices these days, if you want to make things easier on yourself.
Ooooh! A Toshiba laptop!!!! And what a price! I'm a little scared to spend the money right now. 'Puter guru, tho a pro w/corporate clients, is also a family friend and neighbor, so I'm not spending gobs of money having him work on it tho, of course, I DO pay him. Just at very lenient rates. And when he can squeeze me in between the "big boys".

We just lost, for sure, our Dental and Vision benefits AND no real assurance that we aren't going to lose some or all of our health benefits w/this GM bankruptcy bit. Part of our retirement could also be in jeopardy w/this bankruptcy so .... I hesitate to spend any more than I have to right now on ANYTHING!

We're holding off to see what this June change to High Def TV does for our local TV reception does - hoping we can drop our satellite service which is just the basic anyway. We are careful of where and when we go anywhere. A tank of gas can often last me almost a month now. I "try" to get at least 2 weeks out of a tank of gas. Thank goodness hubby's tractor is paid off this month!!! His truck and my car are both '96's but in good running condition. Our house is bigger than we need now - but we really don't want to have to sell out and move to smaller unless forced to do so. Living this far out adds to costs but we really enjoy and need the solitude and peace and quiet and good but distant neighbors. Hopefully property taxes won't force us out before we croak.
I am sooooo jealous!! You live in the country and I would love to be out in the country. I love animals -- pigs, chickens, goats, horses, rabbits, etc. I would have a me a small zoo!!

Sorry about your insurance. It stinks when that happens. We were in that boat 10 years ago when my husband's employer (small independent asphalt company locally owned) went out of business. He was making really good wages, excellent benefits, great company to work for. The owner's kids didn't have any interest in taking over the business and so they sold it all at auction. It was really tough. Would you believe ten years later and he is finally making the same hourly wage he was making then. Took him that long to find a decent job with good wages, but on the downside he is gone and only home a few days a month.

I will keep your family in my thoughts.
Sorry not to here from you Judy. The sites notthe same without you.
