Except for the fact that you only had the device on for a little less than six hours, and that you turned it off and on three times in the course of the evening, it looks beautiful.
You're doing great. Keep it up. When you do wake up in the middle of the night, see if you can zero in on the reason(s) why you are waking up. Are they CPAP-related? Are you thinking about work or other stresses in your life? Do you remember a dream when you awaken? Do you have to pee? Your goal should be to gradually increase the total time per night and reduce the awakenings. It won't happen all at once.

Hi Patrick -- I'm usually up at this time here on the West Coast. Don't mean to sound preachy, but watch out what you eat for that snack. as doctor park will tell you, eating close to sleep dredges up stomach juices and bile that can irritate the throat. also, i'm sure you know this, but just in case, make sure you stay in the dark and don't turn on the lights. turning on the lights can suppress melatonin production, which is the hormone that makes you drowsy. you might buy a special blue light eliminating night light . blue light is the wavelength of light that stimulates the pineal gland of the brain, which regulates the sleep-wake cycles, as the link explains.

Dan,
Ever since I was a child I remember my fater waking up in the middle of the night to go downstairs and have snack, As I reach middle age I find myself doing it, One of my brothers does it. we just seem to wake up and be up for 1/2 to 1 hrs, and then go back to sleep. I am on that sojern right now I woke up at 2;30 a.m. and cannot go back to sleep.

cool. i'll have one of those soon enough (the toddler - already have the night light ;-). definitely you should check out the connection between light, melatonin and serotonin production, and the role that blue wavelength light plays in the sleep-wake cycle. fascinating stuff. surprising how few people know about it.

Mike,
I will look into one of those nightlights, but right now I am going back to bed, my 17 month old will be getting up in about 3 hrs, and from then on it is a race to the finish (He normally wins)

Hey guys, is there a good overview of how to get this kind of detailed data from a CPAP machine on the forum? I'm interested in doing this, and I suspect others are too, but don't know where to start. :-)
Mike, happy to walk you through how to get this kind of detailed data off the CPAP machine. the first step is to know what kind of machine you have. If it's a Respironics with a smart card in the back, you'll need to buy a software and data card reader to access this kind of detailed data.

Mike: Has your wife tried earplugs? I am a light sleeper as well, and any little snoring noises from my husband wakes me. The ear plugs help a lot. For more noise-blocking power I have been using earbuds and downloaded "white noise" and this has changed my life! I have two teenagers that stay up later and are not good at tiptoeing. Plus outdoor noises can wake me up in that crucial falling-to-sleep period where if awakened, it can take another half hour to start dozing off again. I use a small MP3 player (which I charge each day) and small earbuds and sleep on my back. The white noise I found is 1 hour and 15 minutes worth; just enough. If I am not asleep yet, I restart.
Mike, Ill do a little checking and post the make and model of my CPAP here. I suspect you guys have heard of it.
I have used my full comfort mask for two years and I have never seen any kind of print out. What am I missing?
heather, the earbuds and the MP3 player are a great idea for my wife since earplugs irritate her ears too much. i would have never thought of the MP3 though! she'd love that!

Sugarshirl, you need to buy software and data card reader to print out the detailed information we've posted here. earlier in the threads, i include a link to the place at apnealife.com where you can buy the stuff. pretty pricey, but i'll match anyone who sells it for less. do you have a respironics machine (the machine the software and data card are designed for)?
