OK, I have been on CPAP since Dec 2008. Did not have any problem adjusting to the mask, knew I needed it and bit the bullet as they say. Felt good after the first few days and as time goes on the mask leaks are driving me up the wall.

In December I went immediately from 4-5 hrs of interrupted sleep to an ave of 8, that flt good, well rested, no naps required, energy coming back and overall I just felt better. Before CPAP I was going to bed at 8-9PM, then getting up at 2 and back to bed at 5 or 6.

Now I am back to waking up at 3AM after sleeping about 3-4 hrs. I attribute it to a leaking mask, I almost need to hold it in place to stop the leaks. What suggestions are available?

When have you gotten a replacement mask? They should be replaced every three months. The headgear should be replaced every 6 months. If this is not the issue you may need a new titration study. Sometimes people need a little more pressure then when they first started due to getting used to the equipment. If you are waking at 3am it may be you are still having events during REM which wakes you.
Thanks for the feedback. The mask has not been replaced, the foam part of the mask has been one time since Dec 08, the invoice on that (another subject) was $139. Sticker shock.

I will see the supplier next week and see if I can get a new one, I was unaware of the need to replace so often.

Have you been using the same mask since Dec 08? Its getting old, tired and worn out. Most insurances will replace a mask and headgear every 6 months; mask frame and cushion every 3 months - AND - many insurances will pay for a new cushion for the mask frame as often as once a month. You need at the least a new mask cushion from your description of your problem.

The headgear may be getting old, tired and stretched out too. You may need to adjust the fit of the straps. It sounds like its time to retire some of these accessories and get new.
