Dear friends:

ADVICE NEEDED

I get a high mask leak rate (39%) for my Swift FX.  Although this is the same experience I've had for EVERY product I've tried.  Anyone got ideas to help solve that?

EXPERIENCE TO SHARE.

My experience after several years of being treated at NYC's Mount Sinai Center for Sleep Medicine were mixed. So I switched to NYC's Cornell Weill.  Alan Segal, my first doc  was more of the same.

But Matt Ebin, Cornell's cognitive behavior therapist, is more helpful. He suggested wearing the cpap mask for at least an hour in the evening BEFORE sleeping to desensitize my face.  This worked well for me and now tolerate it much better.

This information is very helpful. I have a friend who needs to use a CPAP but is having issues tolerating it. I'm going to suggest that he contact Matt Ebin. Hopefully, Mr. Ebin can help my friend get past his barrier.
What pressure are you at? Is the leak keeping you awake? How do you feel?

Comfort, or lack thereof is a major issue but that can be resolved by using a high quality cloth mask liner such as a Quietus Liner.
I can get 7 days out of each liner and they do REALLY help.

Sometimes a simple solution seems to simple to make using the CPAP therapy something everyone can do. When I first tried my full face mask there were a multiple series of issues, First having a gel liner in contact with the face creates many issues: slippage as your face emits moisture and facial oils. That leads to air leaks and thus disturbs the sleep patern. The folks at Quietus addressed these issues with their high quality reuseable knitted cotton CPAP mask liner. To see how it works check out their video at www.quietusliners.com. They really work as advertised at at an low cost per use of less than 35 cents.
