My husband was just at the DME and asked about whether I would be able to get a new machine. They said yes as long as they have a script.

Here's my situation, I'm nearly 8 months pregnant with twins and throughout my pregnancy I have gained over 60 lbs so far. I'd actually just lost 40lbs prior to being pregnant and had adjusted my pressure from a 12 down to a 9.5. Now I'm back up to 12 and probably need to go higher, but I've had to do this adjustments to my pressure on my own as I can't go for a titration every time my weight changes. After the babies arrive I'll be once again losing weight and so again will be fiddling with my pressures on my own again.

I know the ideal thing would be to be re-titrated professionally rather than fiddle with my pressures, but that's just not practical with such weight changes going on.

So I'm thinking that having an auto-set machine that would let me set a range of pressures that would also allow me to see my data would be helpful.

I'm looking for recommendations about what machine to ask my doctor for. Any opinions on this? My pulmonologist (that I see for asthma, but discussed my sleep apnea with recently) said he prefers Respironics machines. But I'm ready to ask for whatever machine will be best for me, regardless of brand. He also thought that auto adjusting machines tend to wake people up from the pressure changing, but I am not sure I believe that.

Two I've seen that look like they might be good are the S8 AutoSet II and the S9 AutoSet. I do historically have issues with rainout, but then my machine is from 2005 and probably not as adjustable as new ones. But I do like the idea of a machine that can really detect humidity if it really works.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!

I would consider also the Respironics M Series Pro Auto-Adjusting CPAP with A-Flex -- there's patient software and data card reader widely available for it. I'd recommend the Respironics System One APAP, but there's no patient software available yet for it, so I'd nix that (i know for a fact, though, that people on this forum have gotten hold of the pro software version and are using it to their great benefit -- so if you were able to do that, it might be a good option for you)

Congrats on being 8 months pregnant. We just had our little girl 5 months ago and i've never been happier.
For your situation definitely the Resmeds are the better choice. Since I haven't had the opportunity to use an S9 yet I'd rather someone w/experience w/an S9 advise you on the ease and amount of data available via the LCD screen. But I can vouch for the S8 IIs and S8s and the ease of access to and amount of data available via the LCD screen. Respironics can't begin to approach the Resmeds when it comes to ease of access and amount of data available via the LCD screen.
Thanks guys! Now to see if I can get my doc to write the script. Keeping my fingers crossed!
