life insurance/ apnea - sad but true
I am shopping for life insurance now that I have a dependent, and I almost got a $1M policy with a 20 year term for ~$60/month. Then they asked me whether I had any chronic diseases/disorders and I said Sleep Apnea, and my cost almost doubled to ~$120/month. I made the case that i'm actually a lower risk than your average guy who probably has sleep apnea but has no idea he has it and is not treating himself. The sales rep agreed that made sense and that they'd discuss with their underwriters. I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about them making a downward adjustment on account of that compelling argument, though.
Anyone else have experiences with this?

I had not heard anything about apnea being a problem. My dad has had several fights with his policy carrier.

I know it was shortly after I was diagnosed that I was turned down by AFLEC. I wanted short term disability (3 months) in case of serious illness. I didn't fight it as I figured it wasn't worth the hassle since the policy was for short term disability.

Yeah Mike it is considered a major health problem. If you don't tell the truth, I'll wager they get your Doctor's reports- they wouldn't have to pay. I hope it comes through ok, and probably cheap at the price (even $120/month to protect your family). We hope you live a long and happy life, but you'll rest easier knowing your family has something in the bank if there is a catastrosphe. I am finding the same thing for just a $10, 000 policy through my partners work (to be used for my cremation and a big party celebrating my life). They wrote to all my doctors. And as I said, if you lie, especially with a one million dollar policy they will find out.
