pretty good results last night, except for that one spike when my mask fell off:

Pretty good? If that isn't excellent, I'm not sure that your goals are realistic. Are you trying to get your AHI down to zero?
More worried about leak than ahi at this point.

Mike I would not change a thing.
I on't see anything wrong with the leak. What's bothering you about it?
i think that with my mask - activa - and my pressure - up to 12 - my leak is supposed to be lower, in the low to mid 30s. haven't gotten it down there yet.

You can see that at the Hour 2 mark, you have Zero Leak. Hard to tell from the online image, but it appears to be in the low 30s. Your data shows an average leak of 38, but I don't think it's realistic to think that it can get better than it already is. Declare victory and enjoy your new-found post-successful CPAP life!

now it's just a matter of getting everyone else here in as good shape as i am with their cpap treatment.... easier said than done. just have to take it one person at a time...

Daniel, what's making you say at the 2 hour mark i have zero leak? to me the line looks like it's north of the 25 mark, no?

Encore does not subtract anything for expected leak from the mask the way that ResScan does. The way the leak line is flatlining at about 25 let's me deduce that at your pressure, it simply can't go any lower. In other words, at a pressure of 10cmH2O, the exhalation holes on the Activa LT are venting about 25L/min of air. Compare that to the technical specs for the mask on page 8 of the instruction manual. It says that at a pressure of 10, the vent fkow rate should be 31L/min. Your leak rate is better than spec! That's why you should declare victory!

interesting. on the Respironics machines the leak jumps around in 7 L/m increments, or rather is reported only in 7 L/m increments, which is some sort of proxy for reality, but which does not reflect reality perfectly, huh?

As long as your leak is not so high that your machine is missing events, you are basically good. After that, there are diminishing returns for leak battles. Of course, air escaping through the mouth is bad, so fighting mouth leak is a good thing to do. But small leaks around the mask are no biggie as long as the air isn't blowing in your eyes, isn't waking you up, or doesn't seem to be causing arousals (in the sense of the leaks making you feel bad because your brain was irritated by the sound and feel of them all night).

The resolution for the leak line in the graph for that software has a resolution of 7 L/m , I understand--that's why the line is so jagged, changing abruptly. So be sure not to read too much exactitude into the location of that line as it jumps around among 32/39/46. ( http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=33829#p287621 )
This is not standard for anyone else but me. 4-5x pressure = leak rate. So at 12cmwp a pressure of 48 to 60 would be ok. Even then if it was not causing the patient to have events I might let a high leak go until it does as uninterrupted sleep is my goal. in a nasal mask I try to stick closer to the 4x and with a FFM 5x is ok. I have to repeat that this is my way. No one has told me to do it this way. Just something that has worked really well for me. Just remember the goal of PAP therapy is to get good o2. Which in turn leads to good sleep. It is not to get the lowest leak possible. If you can make the events go away and the leak is not bothering you leave it be. Leaks will drive you insane. Mike it is tough to get a leak that low on that setting in a lab. good job.
WOW!

How did that happen?
i got the leak down by using a Respironics chinstrap -- the Respironics Premium Chinstrap, to be exact.
