from a new member: I have been unsuccessful with CPAP and all the different types of masks. Sleep is getting worse and I am worried about my cardiac and resp health. Is a tracheostomy a cure. Longing for a good nights sleep.

I understand that a trach is a cure, but i'ts a last resort.

Let's start at the beginning and try to get you successful with CPAP or a dental device, or one of the other OSA surgeries. What kind of problems are you having with the mask? Take one problem at a time to fix.  Let us know about your problem with the mask, first.  We'll help you along.

It all depends on the person. The trach will cure the apnea but you have to be able to accept some of the sacrifices. Sanitation is a big issue with a trach. I have seen some trachs that made me want to smoke as it would have been cleaner breathing. You still have to watch your weight. I have done studies on pts with the trach that still had apneas. They weighed over 400ilbs. These pts did not make the lifestyle changes to remain healthy.
