I failed my titration study. I only used my bipap 33 percent and in order for my insurance to pay for it I have to use it 70 percent. I really need this machine but in my sleep I take it off because I have claustrophobia. I don't know I'm doing it. When I find out I've done it, I put it back on. It happens several times a night. I think when I feel that air rush in, it scares me. I don't know what to do

Hi Donna:

I'm sorry you've had so much CPAP trouble, but it's encouraging to see your willingness to do so much to make it work! Use whatever device is most available -- set at the prescribed pressure -- & get into a mask that works for you. Whenever one of my patients uses that "claustrophobia" word, I start looking for ways to get them out of the full face mask. Try a nasal mask, nasal pillows, or even a Liberty. Anything to get your eyes uncovered. That seems to help. And keep asking questions in here! There are many capable & giving helpers.

Thank you all so much for your support. I took the Tranquility machine to the respiratory therapist that's helping me now and he said that it's only good for the trash can. He said that there is another part that is suppose to go with it. I can't remember what he called it but it wasn't a humidifire, but it was close and he said that they don't even make those parts anymore. I wish I could find an older one that I can afford and use it a while then prove to the insurance company that I can do it. I would need the bipap sat at 7 and 10. I think that's it. I will have to look at the paperwork again.

Don't be too quick to just toss that Tranquility just yet, Donna!

Go to cpapauction.com and see what you can find in the line of lightly used xPAPs there.

Here's is the Users Manual for the Respironics Tranquility bi-level in pdf format. You can download it and print it out. I haven't gone thru it to read it but usually there is a diagram and list of all necessary parts and how to assemble and use them in the Users Manual (tho not how to set the pressures).
I have never purchased anything on craigslist and I am not recommeding this but to give you some ideas as you explore your options:

http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/for/1156374177.html

The Tranquility was introduced about 1999 so the model is about 10 years old, tho not necessarily the individual devices such as yours - or the one above.

Hmmm. It appears that the Tranquility was a "series" of xPAP models, not an individual model. Probably the next series in line was the Legacy series and now the M Series.

Respironics Tranquility Auto
• Respironics Tranquility BiLevel
• Respironics Tranquility 1700
• Respironics Tranquility Quest 7300
• Respironics Tranquility Quest 7300H
• Respironics Tranquility Quest 7400

You can still buy filters for it. http://www.cpapxchange.com/cpap-filters-bipap-filters/filter-7301.html
Check these out. If you inquire about any be sure to ask how many hours on it and the Serial Number and any other questions you can think of. I've bought on cpapauction and would feel more comfortable w/them than craigslist. I wouldn't want to buy from craigslist unless the item was close enough that I could go inspect the item in person or someone I knew was close enough to check the item out for me.

Donna. I had the same problem as you some 3 years ago.I was trying to use the full face mask and I could not do it. Three years later I end up with conjestive heart failure and almost died. My heart was only working 10 percent and ended up with a trach for 3 years but 3 months ago it was removed and am now using my cpap which is a nasal mask only. I was able to adjust to this by placing it to my nose for a few minutes at a time as I watched T.V. I had a wonderful tech that worked with me. Needless to say 3 years ago the tech I had said the full face mask was all they had. What did I know. I am going to try the pillows but for now I am just fine. You might want to try the nasal mask. I too had that claustrophobia with the full face mask. Tonight I will keep you in my prayers. Remember you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. That I promise to you.
