I am very interested in hearing from anyone who has used or is using a hybrid full face mask.  I'd like to know if you like it or not, if it's better than a regular full face mask and particularly what brand name you are using.

I am now using a Resmed Quattro FX for Her mask.  I've tried a lot of other masks, both nasal and full face but because I sleep with my mouth open I have to use a full mask.

Every mask I've tried I've had to buy mask liners to fit or else I always have leaks no matter how tight or loose I make the straps.  Is having to use liners to stop face leaks normal or not?

I am seeing my sleep doctor for my first appointment since I was diagnosed in January.  I have a lot of questions to ask him but I'd still prefer to hear from people who are using the masks every day.

BTW, I am a side sleeper.

Thanks!

One quickie observation: If you are a mouth breather (I am), you might find it helpful to use a chin strap. That's what most of us "mouthies" use.

Also, check around this site. Several months ago RockRpsgt gave a set of guidelines for putting on our masks. It was really good and useful to all but to especially people like me, a very wet-behind-the-ears newbie.

I went to see my sleep doctor this afternoon and what a waste of time.  The supply company only sent him the month's worth of my sleep habits, enough to show Medicare I used it long enough for them to pay.

He asked me if I was having any problems and I said that I did with the leaking but used a cloth liner to fix the problem.  OK by him.

When I asked him about the hybrid masks he told me he's only had three people in 20 years of practice ever use one but it sounded good to him.  When I asked him why no one was using one he said something about it all has to do with the manufacturer and what they are trying to get on the market and the supply company.  Great!!

What a waste of time today.   It's so beautiful outside even now in the Philly area and there I sat like a nut waiting to get some answers and ended up with none I didn't already know.

Dane from Cpaplibrary is sending me one from Resmed and I'll give it a try.

Oh, I forgot the doc said I shouldn't expect not to have any leaks but if it bothered me that much I should just try another mask.  He talked like I could just go to the store and try on different ones, like we do with shoes, and then make our selection, pay for it and walk out with it.

I don't have to see him for another year.  Maybe by that time I will have this all straightened out.

Rita, I use a Resmed FFM and it has been a year of small changes but think I am close to getting rid of nearly all leaks. I know I've already mentioned it on here, but Mask Liners, have the hose coming from above your head, I have also been slightly adjusting the top straps and the dial. Side sleeping is a problem because it can move the mask ever so slightly, I do find it leaks more if I'm on my right side versus my left, I don't know why. I try to sleep on my back now as much as possible but who knows when your sound a sleep.
