"I was diagnosed 3 years ago with sleep apnea. There is not a mask that I have been able to use. I realize all the masks have to have air holes in them but when I breath out the mask humms. It is like water torture and I know every time I breath out I listen for the noise. I use earplugs but these do not help I have tried and tried to get used to the noise but can't and usually get frustrated and take off the mask because I can't get to sleep. Or I don't even try to use it because I know it will keep me awake. I am desperate to reap the benefits of using my cpap as it seems like I am getting more and more tired each day and all I want to do is sleep, Does anyone have any suggestions??" - - - roberta clevenger has this message on SleepGuide

If you want to reap the benefits of therapy, tell yourself that the hissing is a good thing.

Use the mask while reading to acclimate yourself to the noise without the anxiety of fearing it will keep you awake. Or watch television, etc.

Try some white noise in the background to see if it helps drown out the noise of the mask as well.
I thank you for the suggestion. I have never though of wearing the mask during the day to get used to the humming. I am so tired all the time, I will try this.
