How Many Have Received Their Full PSG Evaluation and/or Titration Reports ???
1] For those who have received them, did you have to ask for them or were they just given to you?
2] What did you receive? Just the doctor's dictated results or the actual printed out scored summary data results w/condensed graphs?
3] Were they just provided to you or did you have to ask for them?
4] Do you know which PSG software was used to print out your results?
5] For the sleep doctors and sleep lab managers: do you routinely give these full scored data summary reports w/condensed graphs to your patients or do you only provide the dictated results to your patients?
6] For the DME suppliers and RTs: which reports do you receive from the sleep labs, the dictated results or the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs or both?

I think I'm very unusual in that the full report was sent to me without asking for it, inclusive of all graphs. I don't know what PSG software was used to print it out though.

I received the doctor's dictated report on both of my studies -- the sleep study and the titration study. Our local hospital outsources their record keeping and I have been unsuccessful in obtaining the full scored report.
I have tried numerous times and have sent the HIPPA paperwork and still all I have received is the dictated reports. I don't actually see the sleep doctor that read the tests and he is associated with our local hospital. When I contacted him he stated that the reports are the hospital's responsiblity and they are the ones I need to contact. When I contact the hospital I am told no reports are actually "kept in hospital" but are done through a company in Georgia. I was instructed by the hospital to go through this place in Georgia and all though I have talked to some RTs about what I need to ask for the dictated reports are all that is sent (I have tried 5 or 6 times). I don't think this company knows their rear from a hole in the head as they haven't figured out what I am asking for. At this time I have given up on getting them.

it's very important to insist from the start on getting all documentation-- including RXs, lab reports, etc (maybe go so far as to make it a condition to going to a particular doctor/clinic). that way you the patient are in control and you don't have to work within the doctors' system, which is a ass-backward one, in my humble opinion. the purpose of the privacy laws and HIPPA and all of the process behind doctors' record-keeping is to serve us, the patients. but, in practice, it is used against us by some doctors/clinics to maintain power and control over us, and to make their lives easier by not having to deal with our questions.

Unfortunately for me I didn't realize that there were reports that would be helpful to me in my treatment. :(
I, also, don't think it helped that my primary care physician ordered the sleep test and I didn't actually see the sleep doctor (although he certainly charged my insurance an arm and a leg for reading the tests). When I have questioned my primary care physician she is clueless about the reports and doesn't understand what I am asking for.

I was given a copy along with my prescription...but I didn't make a copy of it between walking from the doctor's office to the DME's office in the same complex. In hindsight, I wish I had.
Later I asked the DME to make me a copy of the report, and they did.
It was just a form report with values and findings added to it by the sleep doctor. Was strange reading it at first, "total of . minutes of snoring", means he didn't bother entering the 0 to complete the field....or that he couldn't simply write no snoring occurred or something to that effect. Or how could the minutes of a stage and the percentage of time be the same number (for all but the last stage)....when the total number of minutes was more than 100...
Wonder if the DME will make me a copy of my prescription....the doctor wouldn't....waiting until my next regular DME visit to ask.

I would point out that these full scored data summary reports w/condensed graphs and the equipment order (prescription) are part of our medical records and in the USA we have a legal right to copies of them under HIPAA. (The originals are the property of the generating facility or doctor).
While it isn't always in our best interest to alienate a stubborn doctor by forcing the issue as far as filing a complaint w/the Department of Health & Human Services under HIPAA and with our state licensing boards and accrediting societies there are times when we don't intend to stay w/that doctor and it would be worth it. Usually we can get around such doctors by having our family or other doctor request the full information and provide us w/the copies.
But for those who DO want to push the issue to the limit I'll have to post the link to the HIPPA form letter and guidelines.

Patrick, what kind of problems are you having after 3-4 hours each night? Maybe we can help. Does it seem to be the mask or the pressure? Are you sleeping 3-4 hour stretches and then wakening and can't get back to sleep? What?

Judy, thanks for the input. I just got a copy of what my data card has on it from my last time I sent in the card. They mailed me a copy of that report. I still trying to figure out what it all means. I going to go in this week due to get my wifes mask fitted better I am going to see if they can help me understand what it is saying.

Good on you, RichM. I hope your local DME supplier's RT is a good one and will go thru that printout w/you and explain those results and answer your questions. You might want to ask what results from your titration study were provided to them and ask if he/she would go that and explain it too. Sometimes they only receive the dictated results but sometimes they received those full scored data summary reports w/condensed graphs I mentioned. GOOD LUCK!
