This question comes from a new member, and was posted to the SleepGuide profile page instead of the forum, so reposting it here:

"I have had a comfort gel nasal mask for 6 years, when I tried to change to nasal pillows, it didn't work out for me. Has anyone been able to switch the mask interface and tollerate it? My sleep doctor said he could have saved me $$ because people can't switch from a mask to pillows. I ended up giving the pillows to my sister who also has sleep apnea"

I don't see why a patient can't change from one system to the other. I have used all the different models of masks and make them work, but have my favorite mask that I used nightly.

Not all nasal pillow masks are equal. What nasal pillow mask that works for me might not work for you. You can probably find one that works for you by trying different ones until you find one that works best for you. If you use a local DME explain what you like to change over and see if they are willing to work with you in finding one that will work.
And what about the nasal pillows wouldn't work for you?

Pressure too direct into the nostrils drying them out and/or chapping them? Ayr Saline Nasal Gel and/or Spray
Chapping of the bottom of the nose and/or upper lip? Ayr Saline Nasal Gel
Difficult to maintain seal due to the hose tugging and unseating the nasal pillows? Route hose above head. Clip hose to PJs or top of headgear to stabilize the hose and reduce or eliminate the hug.
Many people switch between different types of masks with no problem; nasal mask, nasal pillow, and full face. Different people tend to like different types of masks, it could also be that you simply don't like to use that particular model of nasal pillows. I currently like to use either a ComfortGel nasal mask or Swift nasal pillows, but I almost always use a ComfortGel nasal mask because my partner finds the nasal pillows to be too loud.
I have migrated over time to full face (and a chin-strap!) because while I adopted well to nasal masks, there were occasions when I would start mouth breathing and not realize it. Even with the full face mask I mouth breath sometimes; that leaves me with a really dry mouth when I awaken but that's better than apneas / hypopneas IMHO.
