Maybe you're supposed to put one of those rings in each nostril or indicate a size that fits the back of your throat to keep the airway open...
I think they're counting on the fog of sleep deprivation to overcome any residual logical faculties in those folk desperately searching to feel human again.
Still, if I could balance on my elbows, I might do a lot of things (including sleep) better...
