Hello everyone my name is Anna and I was recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea last month. I'm using the S9 Resmed machine and I'm wearing the full face forma mask. I've been feeling a lot better! The only thing is the straps that sit on my face and behind my head have really been doing a number on my skin. At night the buckle digs into my cheeks and leaves dents, this even happens with the forehead pads. I'm looking around the internet for pads or cushions anything that will help with this, but I don't want to buy something and have to send it back. What do you guys suggest? Also I'm having some trouble with leaking air from the face mask. When I put my gear on and test it out there are no leaks, but I'm a side sleeper and the pillow pushes on the mask forcing air out. Besides getting a sleep apnea pillow can I do anything else to help with the leaking?

Welcome to this site, Anna!

I'm a newbie, too. I have found that I'm happier with a nasal pillow mask. The two that I've used are the ResMed Swift FX and ResMed Mirage Swift II.

Like you, I'm a side sleeper. Either mask worked pretty well from that point of view.

The marking on my face is greater with the Swift FX. I started wrapping the straps with paper towels and poof! most of the day-after marking was severely reduced or went away entirely.

I'm now using the Mirage Swift. I find it slightly more comfortable and it really doesn't leave serious marking on my face. I'm also not having the leaking problems.

I should mention that I didn't think I would ever like using nasal pillows. I was urged to do so by a RT. He wasn't an apneac, but both of his sons are -- and both use nasal pillow masks. So I set aside my nasal mask -- and reservations --- to give the pillows a try . I'm glad I did.

All of this is a journey with plenty of detours and bumps along the way. Check in with us to let us know how you're doing. Meanwhile, we're here for you!

I wish I could use a pillow mask! Lol I have horrible sinuses and when ever bursts of air make their way to my nose my sinuses get blocked. I'm having sinus surgery on the 15th of this month so I'm hoping that will bring some relief. My ENT doc told me that I would need to be hospitalized over night and I'm not allowed to have my cpap machine. Not looking forward to that at all. The pt nurse suggested some websites for cpap accessories like the one below so it doesn't dig into my skin. I'm wondering if the mask liners really help with the irritation around the chin and cheeks because in the morning when I wake up it looks like I got into a fight with the vacuum hose lol. Here are some of the accessories I'm looking at

Hi Anna,

I've just published an article covering all of your concerns and more over at SleepingResources.com. Check it out: FAQ on Using the S9 Redmed CPAP Machine

Thanks for inspiring some great content! If there are any other questions you have that the article doesn't cover, don't hesitate to let me know and I'd be happy to update it.

Thank you for the information Matthew :)
