I haven't been on for a while, I had just gotten my machine with the full face mask and could not tolerate the pressure start 5 then to 15. I had given up........I tried many times.
I went back to my regular internist and she sent me for a second opinon....to the best sleep study guy in town.
I was surgical tech so I don't know all the RT language but anyway here goes. He set my machine so it will start out 5 and gradually go up to what I need during the night. I got a Mirage Activa Lt nasal mask and a chin mask. The first night I slept 7 hours! Can you believe that?!
Although the mask seems to be big for me.......it could cover my mask if I let it and touches the inner corner of my eyes. It is a medium. The full face was an extra small.
Because of all of y'all (yes, I am from the south) I did not give up.....the encouragement all of you gave me. I just want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart!! love and Blessings!

Good going!!! I am glad that you are on the way to a good night's sleep.

If you feel the activa is still a little big -- have them try a small on you. I have found that different masks requires different sizes for my facial features. I may take a small in one mask and a medium in another.

Please keep us posted on your progress!!

I just found out the smallest in that mask comes only in a medium. It seals so good, I will deal with it. Last night I felt some water on my face....where is that from?

What is the best thing to clean your mask with and how often should I? What about the hose?
They told me vinegar?
The Activa LT is a new mask and came out only a couple of months ago. When it first came out, there was no size Small available, but they were planning it all along. Now, there is such a thing as the Activa LT size Small. If your DME says it doesn't exist, make them check again and order it for you.

OK, thanks Daniel........I have to go pack and get the finger thing to check my saturation level next week since it was 72%, I will ask them for it then. What does DME stand for?
Durable Medical Equipment provider, sometimes also known as HME - Home Medical Equipment Provider. In other words, the people who gave you the CPAP and mask.

Daniel
Gotcha! Thanks!
with cleaning, i fill a plastic tub or basis with johnson & johnson baby shampoo and lukewarm water and let my mask cushions soak in there for a few minutes, then let air dry. i do this on a daily basis. when i'm lazy, i take one of these cpap mask wipes to clean off the facial oils that have no doubt accumulated on the mask cushion since the night before. i also replace my equipment as often as my insurance will pay for the replacements, and clean and replace filters every couple of weeks. that's my routine. others are more meticulous. this thread also has some ideas for cleaning cpap equipment

Dear Sandra:
If you are a beginner on a CPAP machine, it is hard sometimes for beginners to get use to the pressure, especially if yours go up to 15. Anyone whose setting is 15 is severe apnea. Sometimes we fell like we are smothering if our mouth comes open while we are sleeping. Be sure to use a chin strap that will keep your mouth closed while sleeping. If you want to get away from a face mask, you can check with your provider and get a Nasal tube that goes directly into each side of your nose. They give you a T that hooks into your hose and a rubber tube hooks on each side of the T. The other end of each tube goes directly into each side of your nose. Some likes this better than a face mask I tried it but I would rather have the mask. They also make a small face mask; I know! Because I have an extra one. You need to check with your provider.

PS: Anyone who rents a CPAP machine can get a new mask every 3 months, so take advantage of it, because you never know when you might break your mask; and anyone who has been on a CPAP for years know that you cannot sleep without your CPAP machine
good for you... i am having a simliar situation., however, i am taking care of it at this time... good luck... donna
The activa is a large looking mask but if there is no leak you are good. If there is just call the homecare company and tell them you need a smaller mask.
I am very happy you have found your success and hope you have many more nights.
BTW I have a westie also that looks almost exactly like yours.
