I have suffered from headaches since I can remember. I have snored since I can remember. When I started cpap the snoring stopped and the headaches did as well. That is, unless I don't wear my mask. I have found that I will get really bad headaches, for up to three days, if I don't use my cpap for all or part of a night. It seems clear to me that my life of headaches was tied to apnea.

What I'd like to know would be how many brain cells have I killed in my lifetime (I'm 46) for lack of oxygen?  Is this the reason I have difficulty concentrating at times?

Has anyone else experienced bad headaches?

I am very glad I got checked out and put on cpap, It saved me.

Alison, that's the million dollar question! Lots of us have had memory problems and difficulty concentrating, as well as the headaches. Many of us find that, like you, the headaches go away when we use out CPAP. Some of us find our memory and concentration get better as well.

Alison...I don't know about you, but I killed tons of my brain cells during my first couple of weeks in college...:)

What ever cells you might have sent to the great beyond are quite honestly history...nothing you can do about the past.

Back in my military days, we use to call them "turtle headaches" Folks in the field would bury themselves in their sleepbags due to cold; totally cover themselves up. They would wake up with wicked bad headaches which would go away within a hour or so of being awake and breathing normally. Just like sleep apnea... In both cases, your 02 is going lower and lower and you're CO2 is increasing...resulting in bad headaches (esp in the back of your head)....

Over the years, I've had plenty of plenty of patients who have had the same issues....Keep using your cpap!!!!
Pretty amazing what a patient airway can do!
Hi Alison:

Nobody knows how much damage you did before you got help with this, & worrying about it won't help. I went a few years with the untreated OSA & headache thing. The first time I work up without a headache I was sold on CPAP. Use the danged thing & you'll feel better & think better. That's all that matters.
