On my last physical, I told my doctor that I've been feeling real tired and sleepy. He asked whether I knew if I snore. I have caught myself falling asleep at work and kind of catching myself (hearing) snoring as I wake up. He send to a sleep center to get tested. The 1st time I went they told me to go and have it again, because they did not get enough data(???). The 2nd time I went the doctor gave a pill to take so I could fall asleep. I went in at 10:00pm and by 12:30am I was heading home. They tried several different masks and I could just not breath. I guess my question is, Has anyone had to go in several times? and finally get the test done? I would hope that I don't have sleep apnea but, everything points to my having it. The lady at the sleep center said that they would need to be able to finish the test before they can start treating it.

Thanks

Thank you

Were you claustrophobic or panicked? Did you feel like you need a higher pressure/more air?

I had a problem with my last titration a few years ago because at 4 cmh2o the air was too still and I was very uncomfortable at a lower pressure. I had to have them start my titration at 10 cmh2o, which is what I had been using for the previous 10 years or so.
Mr. Gonzalez,
Yes it is true at times it may take a couple of 3 trips to the sleep lab. I do ask that the night you arrived at 10 and was on way home by 12:30 had you taken your sleep aid? We are required to make sure anyone who takes a sleep aid remains in the sleep lab past the half life of the medication. I never allow a patient to leave earlier than 8 hours after taking a sleep aid. If they really persist in leaving have them sign a wavier that me or the Hospital no longer responsible for their safety. It’s an AMA document.
Another point. It takes a good 15 minutes or so to get use to a mask. If you go back please understand that you may feel a bit claustrophobic it may feel as if you are not getting enough air. You are getting more than your body is use to receiving.
Our bodies know how to respond to suffocation and drowning but not to more. The Brain just gets a bit confused and you get the suffocation affect. Simply just pull mask way from face take a couple breaths and continue. Your anxiety is normal and can be worked out.
Good Luck
