I just started using head gear 3 weeks ago and can't say I'm used to it yet so I don't know if what I have is good or not.  Been using ResMed Swift FX with small pillows until two days ago.  Tweaking it all night.  Couldn't relax.  Last two nights used Resperonics Comfort Gel mask.  Compared to the Swift FX it felt heavy and uncomfortable.  Problem is probably me trying to relax and can't.  Can anyone tell me which is the best to use of the two I have or is there a more comfortone mask out there I can ask for?  Am I the only one who is driving myself nuts getting used to wearing apnea masks?

Thanks for any and all help...

Rita

Drat! I had a wonderful reply posted to you, Rita, and it got lost in cyberspace.

I’ve been on CPAP for 12 years, and I’ve probably used at least 30 different masks. I was given a ResMed Swift FX last week by a sleep tech, and I am delighted with it. It took about four nights to get it adjusted correctly, but once I got it right, I don’t feel like I’m wearing a CPAP mask. I also use the Ultimate Chin Strap. I had tried just about every chin strap on the market, but none of them worked for me. My husband was getting really tired of my rambling nightly conversations about elephants chasing tigers through the jungle! He would wake me up at least twice a night to stop me from talking out loud!

He can’t believe how well he can sleep now that my mouth stays shut all night, and my mask isn’t slipping and leaking. And I’m feeling much more rested than I have in years.

The literature I got from the ResMed web site says to wash the mask daily with gentle soap. No aromatic-based solutions or scented oils (eucalyptus, essential oils, citrus, alcohol, etc.) My ophthalmologist recommended baby shampoo for cleaning my eyelids daily, so that’s what I use to clean my mask. I don’t clean it daily; just when I get around to it. I wash the headgear about once a week or 10 days. I do wash the chin strap daily because my mouth opens just enough that I drool on it.

I hope you can get the Swift FX pillows headgear adjusted correctly so that you’re getting a good night’s sleep. I needed to loosen the over-the-head strap a lot so that the back-of-the-head Velcro strap was in the correct position. I’m getting some face irritation from the pillows straps, so tonight I made some covers for them. Just made a couple of tubes from very lightweight fleece. I’ve also made covers for my husband’s Swift II cheek straps and the tube that he has fastened to the cheek strap so it goes over his head.

Please let us know if you’re having problems. That’s what this forum is for. Helping each other.

Are things getting any better, Rita?  I wear a total face mqsk which I love, so I can't

be of any help to you.
