Mary Z Perry you need to post this as a new discussion to get responses.  I think it's fine to take ambien for one week to get you going.  The other alternative is to tough it out.

Perry, It takes time to get used to it, some can do it the first night, others take weeks or even months. Instead of Ambien, have you tried some of the herbal sleep meds like Valerian or Valerian Fotre. There are a lot of others out there, they are non addictive and don't leave you with that foggy head in the morning. Could you explian what you mean by 'Haven't figured out how to actually sleep yet' are you having problems with the mask? or is it the CPAP concept. Any mask problems can usually be solved, if it's the CPAP concept it is in your head and you have to go into CPAP with a positive attitude towards it or it will more than likely fail, please give us some more information. It's alway good to know the type of machine and mask you are using it that is the issue.
