It went well. It would have gone better if the Contec CMS-50D+ recording oximeter weren't so darn tricky to turn On/Off. At least for this "techie disaster". Whatsa matter w/KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)? I need KISS. Turns out all I had to do was take it off my finger and wait a few seconds. *sigh* So I dropped all the data from the CMS-50D+. *sigh*. Ah well, tonight is another night and tomorrow another day.

I think I slept well last night. From about 12:30 AM to 6 AM. Which is not at all unusual for me. I felt good when I woke up. UNTIL I realized my daily "fix" of data was NOT going to be available. (I don't have the software - yet). And then was REALLY disappointed when I wasn't even able to get my data "fix" from the oximeter either. I was counting on the oximeter data to prevent any severe "data withdrawal" symptoms. *wicked grin*

jnk has warned me that most likely there will really be no difference between the two bi-levels. So did my sleep lab manager. But sometimes I get a bug in my craw and I just can't be satisfied until I prove or disprove it to myself.

Yesteday I took a last "goodbye for now" nap on my Resmed VPAP Auto before packing it safely away for the month and used the Respironics FitLite full face mask for the first time.

I rather like it! I did have some trouble w/leaks, not bad ones, in an unusual area - and the only area. It seems the FitLife's "bow" or "arch" or "curve" or whatever you want to call it at the forehead is more curved than my evidently flatter forehead needs. The very center of the cushion at the top would push out as my pressure built up and a small leak would develop right in the center of my forehead. The leak wasn't so bad, I suspect my VPAP Auto could have compensated for it nicely - except it also whistled. Not a loud piercing whistle. Just a relatively quiet IRRITATING whistle  that made it difficult to go to sleep and that woke my husband up. Yeah, he had popped a Tylenol and laid down because his leg was bothering him so bad. He who never naps. I fussed w/it a bit but will give up for awhile.

I'm not at all ready to give up on the FitLife. I liked it too much. Comfortable (until the pressure popped that forehead leak), full clear field of vision. But I'll pack it away for the month too along w/my VPAP Auto and see how this PR S1 and my ProBasics Zzz-Mask and I get along.

So - so far so good w/the PR S1, not so good w/the CMS-50D+ for night one.

I so wish I hadn't loaned out my SPO 7500 recording wrist oximeter so I wouldn't have had to borrow this CMS-50D+. But I'm sure its just that I'm familiar w/my SPO 7500 and need to get used to how to operate this 50D+. The person I borrowed it from loves it - but then they've never used the SPO 7500 either. And I will say the On/Off button on the 50D+ is sure a lot easier to use than that dang button on the 7500. But then my 7500 is no spring chicken. Its one of the first ones out. I'd guess SPO improved on it in later models.

Well, I'm ready for a nap. Went in to town for an easy medical procedure and stopped at one shop to buy three items (I went in for just one specific one *sheepish grin*), and sat out in the front yard at the picnic table to share a Pizza Hut pizza w/hubby and now I'm ..... sleepy. And I haven't taken the time to practice setting up the darn D50+ yet so gotta do that yet. If I don't have my second wind by then I'm gonna take that nap!!!!

I don't wanna here nuttin' from no one about proper sleep hygience either!!!!!! *wicked grin*
So, I took my nap. Did I mention that I HATE this 50D+? Just in case I didn't, I'm here to tell you I HATE this 50D+. I never did get it to turn on to recording properly before I fell asleep. I so wish I had my SPO 7500 back!

Which makes me all the more frustrated w/the lack of ability to access the efficacy data via the LCD screen w/this PR S1 like I can my VPAP Auto. BUT it IS comfortable breathing and I've forgotten what the settings are. I was thinking it was set wide open at IPAP 25, EPAP 4 but the more I think about it I think he said EPAP was 6. Whatever, it was comfortable and I had no trouble falling asleep! To the best of my knowledge I had no trouble disturbing my sleep. So far I feel no better nor no worse than w/my VPAP Auto. Like one night and one nap is going to tell me anything, right?

I hate to ask my friend for my SPO 7500 back just yet - but - I might have to!!! I have to face it and admit it - I'm a data junkie!!!! I'm addicted! In all fairness to the PR S1, as I understand it, once I get 5 nights on it, I will be able to access some data. I'm sure I could make it w/o PAP data "if" I could at least get my Sp02% data from this *$%^# CMS 50D+. I've got to go thru the Clinicians Manual again. I wish I had a copy of the doggone software!! Then I would have no complaints - and not be going thru data withdrawal.
This is turning out to be more a review of the 50D+ oximter than of the PR SystemOne BiPAP Auto unfortunately.

So the PR S1 first. I think I slept fairly well again last night. I only remember waking once, didn't look to check the time or if I did I don't remember it. The humidification is working just fine. But then I've not been one to have "rain out" or other humidification problems. I know there have been times I've reached over to my VPAP Auto's Humidaire H3i and turned the humidity up or down during the night but its just second nature to do so so the PR S1's new humidification system wasn't a selling point for me or even of any great interest. HOWEVER, it is working very well. At least I've had no reason to reach over and try to adjust it. But then I seldom had to w/the VPAP Auto either.

Breathing w/the PR S1 is smooth and easy. This is in Auto mode. I will be trying it w/02 in Auto mode, then w/o 02 in Auto mode and then when we have some idea of needed IPAP and EPAP settings and 02 need I'll go to straight BPAP mode and see how I do. In that respect it is difficult to be patient and sensible and stay at these settings in Auto mode for two full weeks. Remember, I'm THE impatient patient!!

But this CMS-50D+ oximter!!!! Grrrr. This baby is for more "techie" minded folks than I am!!! The principal is simple enough evidently: Short button push to get into a screen, Long button push to get into a menu, Short button push to scroll thru the options, Long button push to select an option. For those who grasp and do button pushes easily, who are good w/remotes and cell phones and iPods and all that stuff I'm sure you must think me dumb as a rock. Well, I'm here to tell you - when it comes to this type of stuff I AM dumb as a rock!!

The 50D+ did a great job of recording all night so far as I can tell. No problem w/the sensor coming off or too tight and uncomfortable or anything and it was still recording when I got up this morning. BUT - I dumped the data AGAIN and wasn't able to download it to the software. And it took some real fussing until I was able to turn the *&^% thing off. To be safe I've pulled the batteries out again so I'm not wasting them since I inadvertently dumped the data again. It doesn't automatically shut off when you remove your finger. It should in my opinion so at least you are not draining the batteries.

So - not having access to ANY data yet is taking a LOT of the fun out of waking up in the morning. And its taking a LOT of the fun out of using the new PR S1. I will be so GLAD when I hit the 5 night mark and can at least see the averages for those nights!!!! Or better yet when the software gets here - maybe today even!!!

This much I DO know. I am sleeping as good w/the PR S1 as I was w/the VPAP Auto in Auto mode. I can't say I am noticing any definite differences. Or that I am feeling any better or sleeping any better w/just two nights under my belt. But then my sleep has been so erratic to begin w/lately that two nights is no real indication. I know I like this PR S1. And I've started using it at a time that has included a couple of mighty hectic days so I am putting it to the test.

I think the main problem is too many new things at once. The excitement over the chance to briefly try a new mask, the Respironics FitLite, which really intrigued me and which I like the two naps I tried it, w/only one problem I havent had time to solve yet since I needed to go back to my regular ProBasics Zzz-Mask for consistency in trying out this new PR SystemOne BPAP Auto.

Then the excitement and thrill of actually getting a PR S1 to try!!! THAT was the biggest thrill and most excitement of all!!!.

Then since I know I'm not thrilled w/having to learn new techie things the dread and frustration w/this Contec CMS-50D+ oximeter. The 50D+ has really put the damper on the excitement of trying this new PR S! and I resent that. So far tho, I am really happy w/this PR SystemOne!
Gads! I sure didn't realize how much I relied to my data every morning! I don't remember WHAT time it was when I went to bed. I know I was asleep in no time. I was one pooped putzy last night. I slept like a log all night. And I didn't have enough sense to look at the clock when I got up so I haven't got the foggiest idea how many hours I slept!!

Hey! What can I say? I'm retired. I don't look at clocks or calendars any more and I don't wear or use a watch. I rely on my morning data and my cell phone when I remember to take it w/me. Or the car radio if need be.

My third night w/"Essie". (That's the "pet" name I've given this PRS1 BIPAP Auto). I feel rested. And my Peak Flow this morning was 140 when its been running 120 first thing in the morning. (That is a COPD thing).

I blew the download of the Contec CMS-50D+ data. *sigh* But I'm pretty sure I know what I did wrong, I think I interrupted the download to the software. I've decided I've been "thick" enough that its best if I have my 'puter guru tackle installing the EncorePro 2.2 So - two more nights and I can get some data via the LCD screen on the PRS1, right?

I sure am liking this PRS1! I did peek this morning when I first woke up and it was running EPAP 12.4 and IPAP 14.4 Either I am just getting over some COPD congestion or the PRS1 and its humidfication control is doing one heck of a nice job!!! My lungs feel nice and clear.

I'm going to explore the manual today and start learning all the goodies about this baby.
I should have known. *sigh*

Finally occurred to me to take my temp. 101.4 Started on Zithromax.

Dang COPD can sneak up on you and an exacerbation can get a good head start on you sometimes w/o your realizing it is so gradual. At least for me it can. Picked up my lab work Tuesday but hadn't looked at it. Just getting around to filing it. Both CRP and Sed rate were elevated. I should have looked sooner, I might have put 2 and 2 together and got started on the Zithromax sooner.
Ha! FIVE nights now on the PR S1 BPAP Auto. So much for my "guess-timates". I've consistently been sleeping better than 7 hours a night w/this PR S1. And I've failed to mention what a near stroke of genius the swivel hose connector to the humidifier is. It really is so convenient. The first 4 nights I averaged 7:48 hours a night for a total of 33.2 hours with it. As soon as hubby wakes I'll check my stats for the full five nights. And then I want to turn the LCD backlight on. My provider left it turned off. I've been doing my one "pit stop" a night and it is always well into the night, after which I get about another hour and a half of sleep before waking up for the day. I can't believe how quickly I am falling asleep EVERY night. I must be falling asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow.
I'm so happy for you, Judy!
