First night on cpap.....I really miss breathing out of my mouth :(

Well I lasted 4 hours the first night on cpap. I did wake up multiple times with the equipment. The RT told me yesterday that I could try to "build up" to sleeping all night with the equipment. I had a hard time going to sleep and didn't feel the strap that is suppose to keep my mouth shut worked too well. I know that I am a mouth breather and the Dr. had really suggested a full face mask. When I told her this, she said, "He tells everybody that." Since I have 30 days to get a different mask, I will continue with this one until after T'giving. I also have a sore throat this morning. The heated humidifier is set on 2.
I may try turning that up too.

Carolyn, I'm a mouth breather, too. Also looking foward to the inevitable winter cold with stuffy now I have opted for the full face mask. I think it works better for me.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Mary,

Which mask do you have?

Carolyn, I have the Mirage Quattro FFM.

Carolyn, I've used a couple of different machines and masks since I was diagnosed around 6 years ago. The current system has to be the best I've been prescribed. The actual mask is an Ultra Mirage II full face mask - http://alturl.com/4vgd - which is very comfortable. I have always been a mouth-breather having had a constantly blocked nose and so the full mask is necessary, along with the humidifier unit. I am registered blind but find the Ultra II mask is extremely easy to disassemble and reassemble even with my limited vision.
