feeling groggy
Lately, I've been feeling so groggy that it's been hard to muddle through the day. I'm not sure what is going on. I hate being unable to think clearly. I also resent being unable to get things done because I can't focus.

Hi Susan, I see on your page that you have sleep apnea, but no treatment. Do you have any plans to start CPAP, have surgery, or get a dental device?
It does sound like you needed to be treated. While I was waiting for a sleep study and diagnosis I felt much as you describe. I was falling asleep on my feet within a half hour of getting up. My Psychiatrist prescribed Provigil which allowed me to function while I waded through the process of getting my CPAP. Perhaps your PCP or Sleep Doctor would prescibe a mild stimulant for you while you wait to be treated. Provigil and Nuvigil (longer acting provigil) are two of the common stimulants, but there are others. I don't feel any effects from the Nuvigil I take (I still have daytime sleepiness), but am able to stay awake and alert.

Hi Mary,
Once the results of my sleep study were interpreted by my primary physician, I was told to loose weight. He felt that my sleep apnea was mild enough not to warant any treatment. Thanks for writing.

I have no set bedtime routine. Perhaps you asked me this question because it is important to establish good sleep hygene techniques. Please let me know if that was what you were thinking, as well as the kind of sleep regimen you adhere to. Thanks for writing. All the best.

Yes that was where I was going with my questions. It is important to try and set up a regular sleep schedule. Did your doctor give you any other information about your sleep study. Do you happen to know what your AHI was? Do you have high bloodpressure, diabetes, or gerd?
