Hi Folks,

I have been struggling with Sleep issues for a very long time .. some of you may have seen my posts ..

I finally, learned how to sleep on my side so my obstructive events went to zero ..

But, the Resmed S9  says I am having Central events .. at times .. a lot of them ..

My current sleep doc tells me not to worry about them ..

I went to a Neurologist who has taken an interest in my situation, he worked in Sleep Medicne a number of years ago.

When I showed him the reports from the S9 .. He said that he was not convinced that the Resmed s9 could accuratly sense CSA events ..

So .. another Sleep Study has been scheduled ...

2 Questions:

1) Are there any tests that can be done with the normal study ?  I am thinking that there might be some extra Neruological testing that could be done.

2) How accurate is the S9 in reporting those events ?

Bottom line .. I am SO tired .. and getting worse ..  this is like the 15th sleep study  I have had ..  I can't read anymore

Thanks folks

I wish I could give you some answers. Instead, I'll give you the only thing I can give you: my sympathies.

I am so sorry to hear about your problem. I also look forward to reading what the experienced apneacs (is that a word?) suggest.

Good luck, Fred. I also think you're lucky in that you have a professional who has taken an interest in your problem. I have severe sleep apnea and the first sleep disturbance clinic never ordered an overnight study and (worse) insisted that my problem was insomnia. Worse, I believed them.

I was actually diagnosed by a very smart friend with whom I shared a hotel room.  I was on the Internet within an hour of my return from the trip and two days later was sitting in front of a different doctor at a different clinic with an overnight study scheduled for the following night.

THANK GOD!

Fred, from what I understand the S9 cannot detect centrals, but records "clear airway events" which may or may not be central events. I have also hear (purely anecdotal reports) that the S9 over reports them. Some centrals are normal- we all have some, but the only way to accurately diagnose them is in the sleep lab.  Obviously something is wrong since you are feeling so bad, but I'm sure you're tired of sleep studies.  I know of no other neurological testing that can be done during a sleep test, but this is a good question for your neurologist.

The doc can pay special attention in looking for centrals.  You can also ask for a trial with an ASV machine or a split night with CPAP and ASV.  ASV is good, but not the only machine that will treat centrals, but with you feeling so bad you may need one.

Good luck, keep us posted, Fred
