another CPAP user let me know of a tip -- he brings an extension cord with him wherever he travels just in case the hotel room/ house where he's staying doesn't have an outlet near the bed for his CPAP machine. thought it was a very good tip that I might start doing myself when i travel.

Tim -
You have some very innovative solutions for power outages and for camping.
Questions:
-Does the lithium ion battery stay connected to your CPAP even when the electricity on the house is on?
-Does your CPAP automatically uses the lithium ion battery if the power is out, but not if it is on? Do
you have some sort of switching device, or something to detect if the power is out and switch it over to
the lithium battery?
-Where did you get the lithium battery, what does it cost, and what exactly is it called (brand, item#, etc.)?
-Is the lithium battery rechargeable? If so, what do you use to recharge it?

I would greatly appreciate your answers. This group is great.
Every person has another solution to add, and between all of us, we may all be able to
solve our power outage problems one way or another.

I have a project this weekend to install an AGM deep cycle battery in the trunk of my car. I had been keeping the battery in my bedroom for the past couple of years, but I have never used it. I got a battery trunk mount kit and a 2 battery isolator to install it.

The battery will stay in the trunk and will be kept charged by the car battery charging system. I will be able to use the battery to power my CPAP when camping and I can take it into the house if necessary. I have a lithium ion CPAP battery that stays connected to my CPAP and it will power the CPAP for over two nights. The AGM battery will power my CPAP for about a week without charging, and it can be used to start my car if necessary.
How about the the weinmann? It has corners that slant in towards you jaw.

Thank you, Rock

The Weinmann Joyce looks the same as the Weinmann Soyala, which I have but
can't use - sealed once, caused sores on bridge of nose, and never got it to seal
again, even with my making a memory foam cushion (triangle-shape) for inside the
thin silicone lining that goes against the face. It has no real cushion otherwise.

I have problems with reactions to some forms of silicone, so I make thin cotton
flannel liners for any full face mask, too. That didn't do the job, though. Still got
sores.

The Joyce, though, has different headgear than the Weinmann Soyala, so it is
worth a try, because it may not put pressure on the same areas when the
headgear is snugged up. I'll have the RT bring it when she comes.

The Soyala has more places to adjust it (all the parts click into place in different
positions) than anything I've ever found. If the Joyce is similar, perhaps with the
different headgear, it would work.

Can anyone suggest an oral mask? I may be getting something done for polyps
in the nose and a deviated septum (don't know yet - having sinus CT scan in a
couple of weeks), so I may need an oral mask for a few nights. Any ideas?
Again, I've got the retrognathic jaw issue (not severe, but enough of a receding
chin that it slopes backward).

Thanks again, Rock.
Vicki

I also made flannel liners, since I was still getting sores. I have
problems with materials and pressure.

I cut cotton fleece squares and put them under the wide SP Medical
chin strap I use, on the sides, for comfort. I make my own cushions out
of cotton fleece, for cutting down on marks from neoprene headgear on
the cheeks, which I prefer to buying the polyester fleece from Padacheek
and other companies. It's easy.
Much cheaper, too.
