Do they work? I cant stand the mask and its problems any more. I would like to find an alternitive. My PCP suggested an operation that would remove all the extra skin in the back of my moulth. How about that and a dental appliance. Maybe that will help me get through a day with out felling like I am going to pass out.

Thanks

Chris, the last New York City AWAKE group meeting we had featured dental practitioners who fit oral appliances on patients. One of the dentists gave an excellent presentation on the benefits and drawbacks of these devices. I'll try to post it here for you. Bottom line is that for some people, they work very well. A lot of it depends on the structure of your mouth and airway -- whether you'd be a good candidate. Especially since you're considering surgery, I'd go see Dr. Park since you're in the NY area. He's an excellent ENT surgeon who knows a ton about sleep apnea.
If you could post that information that would be great. Have you delt with Dr.Park yourself? Any contact information?

I have heard nothing but good things about Dr. Park from others in the health care community.
Just saw a presentation about this at the California Sleep Society meeting in November.

This can be a good option if you have an RDI/AHI that is classified as mild or mild-moderate. Anything higher than that and you're likely to have a poor outcome.

If you want, I can look up information that I have on it....I just don't have it with me now.
