I can't get my Dr's to consider the fact that I have Csa.My sleep studies have always been unimpressive. The Dr has recently ordred a CPap study to focus on centrals, but the insurance co. has sent back the request and is asking what machine I am on.I have tried every type of therapy pressure and mask.sounds like I need the ASV.My face stays red and my head hurts all the time,I wake up fatigued every day.Thia is a miserable existence,I can't even hold down a job in this condition.Sound familiar?

What is Bpap St?

Bpap ST is a more advanced Bipap unit. This machine has breathing support that will sometimes help with CSA.
is it Bpap or Bipap and is it Respironics?thx 4 ur help

VPAP is ResMeds brand name for Bilevel,

Respironics name is BiPap.  That doesn't help you with the ST.  As stated above  ST means ""S9 bilevel with backup rate for exceptional patient–ventilator synchrony."  oF course it also could be an S8 with ST in the name.

BPAP is a generic abbreviation we use here for BiLevel.

You can learn much by reading the description of your machine on the manufacturers web site and reading the manuals.

This discussion provideds an excellent explanation about CPAP and BiLevel-

You sound like more is going on than CPAP failure.  Have you had a thorough physical with blood work lately?  You sound like you may need a new mask if you wake up with a red face every morning.  If you are not 100% compliant- all night, every night, and naps you cannot assess the effectiveness of your therapy.  It's good you are in touch with your doctor because something is wrong if you are using your machine faithfully.

Your situation is certainly not the norm, robert.

I will say one more time, read the discussion presently on the forum (there are several) about CPAP and Bilevel, as well as the description of your machine on the manufactures web site- it is a wealth of information and should answer many of your questions.  The users and clinical manual may help, too.  You need to do some work yourself by reading about your machine.

@Mary,the mask is not the problem. The red face is might be a symptom of hypercapnia. The main problem I am experience is going to sleep with mask on and machine on and then waking up b4 30mins has elapsed.During these periods of short spurts of sleep,I might even dream. But,when I awaken after several hrs of this broken sleep,I am tired. If I try to take a nap to make up 4 lost sleep, same pattern occurs. The blood work i have had done is kidney,thyroid,a1c,cholesterol,all supposedly came back good.I am not a diabetic.

Robert, sounds like a real problem.  How did you sleep before CPAP?

If you're having hypercapnia- could you have COPD, or maybe a defective mask?

I am so proud of you Mary! She is one of mine! ;)
@Mary,b4 cpap or without it,If I doze off I wake up just the same, very quickly upon sleep onset.Same result with other masks and Drs say my lungs sound fine.Have had the tonsillectomy,UPPP,Uvulectomy,Septoplasty.and turbinate reduction.I have ruled out bad mask and COPD.I have treated the insomnia part of it with Trazadone;Have recently stopped taking the Trazedone because I started to have headaches.
It sounds like you are having severe onset events. This would indicate insufficeint pressure.
I have gone as high as 15/11.I even put the o2 up 2 3.That is as high as I will do it myself.O2 sats dropped to 90 in last SS.They say that is not bad.Maybe o2 isn't necessary.Just got a brand new Mirage Quatro Full Face 2day because it has been over 6mths.But I am positive nothing is wrong with the old mask.
