I have been on a CPAP for about 14 months. It has been a love hate relationship with good and bad nights. My initial setting was 15 and when used the only big thing was I was able to sleep though the night without waking, where before I would get up 3 and 4 times a night. The biggest problem was with bloating and not from swallowing air, but pressure just pushing through to my stomach. I finally was able to work through it with a little elevation of my head, but only on my back. When I turn to my side I would not last 20 minutes before I had a watermellon belly. I trained my self to stay on my back throughout the night. I recently purchased a System 1 Auto Cpap and the Encore Viewer software to get a better understanding of my predicament. I tried a setting of manual setting of 6 and slept on my side for all of 2 hours and when checked the data I had massive apneas and PB's. I changed my settings to a minimum of 15 (original titrate) and max of 20 and ran the unit in auto. It was obvious from the data that when I was on my back I had an increase in OA's, PB's and symtoms in generals and when I turn on my side and rode out the bloating the unit dropped to the minimum setting of 15 and all symtoms dropped to hardly anything. So long story short I can only sleep comfortable on my back which increases apneas with cpap correction of 20 to correct or I can sleep on my side and be miserable with bloating, but with relitivly low apneas. On going battle.
